During the pre-press circus for Ghost Rider, in which Nicholas Cage appears alongside the lovely and talented Eva Mendes, Cage apparently told journalists he’s trying to get a She-Hulk film made. What’s more, he said he wants Eva Mendes to play the Hulk’s cousin:
Today during the press junket for Ghost Rider, Nicolas Cage revealed to a surprised group of journalists that he is currently trying to get She-Hulk off the ground with Eva to star as the lead green she-monster.
While it may be too early to tell if the folks over at Marvel will take this offer seriously, you can catch both mega stars in Ghost Rider which opens next week.
I don’t think she’s a bad choice, as she’s certainly likable enough to fill She-Hulk’s very big shoes, but maybe Cage should wait to start negotiations after seeing Ghost Rider’s opening weekend numbers.
Update: Dan Slott responds to Cage’s She-Hulk movie idea

At the very least, I’m glad to see Cage following up with his often-ignored longtime love affair with comics. After he infamously sold off his collection, I was disheartened since he had always seemed to be a pretty passionate fan. I think Mendes could do an alright job, since she does have a good look and tons of charisma. Still, though, shouldn’t She-Hulk be a bit more bulky?

Yeah that is true. I guess they could always put her in a muscle suit like they done with Michael Chiklis as The Thing.

I would like her to start getting better parts all around. for them to make a she hulk movie…you would actually need a hulk movie that was good.

She could be a co-star in the Hulk movie, but not have her own movie.

RE: Cage selling his comics collection…
It was rumored that Cage was made to sell his collection by then fiancee/wife Lisa Marie Presley. He was/is obsessed with Elvis, so one can assume bopping the King’s daughter would be like bopping the King himself in Cage’s eyes, and he’d do anything to keep her happy. Anyway, she wanted him to “grow up” and give up the “childish hobby.” He sold his collection, and they divorced a few months later. Was it the the comics that drove him over the edge? Or was it the fact that she had parts of Michael Jackson in her too (after all, bopping Michael Jackson’s ex-wife is like bopping Michael Jackson). I say it was the comics.
Moral of the story: Women come and go, but Action Comics #1 (among other rare gems) is forever.

Mariah. Eva should play Mariah in the movie version of Sin City: Hell and Back. Did anyone see how she manhandled Johnny Depp in Once Upon a Time in Mexico?

Well, congratulations Newsarama for finally making it easier to post replies.
I say Eva Mendes is overrated. I just don’t think she’s a good actress and certainly not She-Hulk. Has nothing to do with the bulkiness but who’s a good actress. I say that if you’re gonna go with an Eva, make it Longoria….who’s still not right for the part. If a latino is what you need, Jennifer Espisito is perfect. Or Salma Hayek.

Mendes is 5′6″. That’s not terribly Shulky to me.

“Mendes is 5′6″. That’s not terribly Shulky to me.”
Unless they find a great actress who’s 6′ 6″ tall, there’s going to be some computer magic and the actual height isn’t too relevant.
February 12th, 2007 at 1:29 pm
Whoa! It’s a very good thing to have comic book fans in Hollywood.
Eva is attractive and a decent actress and, even though I’d much prefer a taller Caucasian, she’d be fine.

No one said “great actress who’s 6′ 6″ tall”. But a decent actress who’s taller than 5′ 6″ wouldn’t hurt and it’s possible. I agree the cgi will help but it’s the actors that have to make you believe. If you don’t have that…

Wow. If a woman loves you, she should be able to accept you and all your quirks.

Dan Slott posted this on his board, and unfortunately he’s since pointed out that in more detailed transcripts it is revealed that Cage was joking.

Why the hell not? If a character can a have a movie or series, why not? Just because you don’t think she’s important enough?

Not really but it would help. The last one wasn’t absolutely terrible and beyond redemption but we cold use something substantially better.

RE: Cage selling his comics
I read an interview with Nic Cage a while back and he said the reason he sold of his comic collection was because somebody either stole or tried stealing some of his comics and he was fearful that the rest could possibily be stolen so he said he’d rather sell them so other fans could enjoy them rather than risk having them stolen again.

I would argue the fact that a poster said she isnt a good actress. she really is good solid actor in my eyes…and brightens up the screen every time.
February 12th, 2007 at 4:36 pm
Jimmy: ESPECIALLY in Training Day, in the scene where Ethan Hawke comes back to her house. Now that’s what I call brightening up the screen.

Too bad this rumor was already debunked over the weekend. Cage said he could see her in the role. He then clarified, when rumor started after the press conference, that he never said the movie was being made nor did he say that he was trying to get it made.
Hearsay does not evidence make. The quotes are out there if you take 5 seconds to look.

I’ve got Cage’s copy of INCREDIBLE HULK #174 in my collection. Bought it a while back at a convention with a certificate of authenticity and everything. Already had a nice copy of the book but the price was good and it belonged to Cage…good enough for me! Made owning one of my all-time favorite Hulk issues even cooler.

I think she be great most of it will be cgi and she is a hot and sexy woman and she is a great actress and is requested by a lot of producers get the facts right gang.

I don’t believe it. I don’t believe it because it’s the exact wrong way to make a She-Hulk movie.
Jennifer is tiny. She’s a mousy little girl. I don’t want a completely different actress playing both parts, I want someone who is good enough to play both parts. I’d much rather fudge her height for the She-Hulk parts than get one actress who’s 5′6″ and another actress who’s a whopping 5 inches taller.
And seriously, that’s what we’re talking about. 5′6″ isn’t “Shulkie”, but 5′11″ isn’t significantly better.
