One thing binds all comic fans together: We’ve all bought comics we regret:
“So, last year I began this quest to get all the Doom Patrol, JLA, JSA, TT and LSH trades for my own personal library. Well, for the most part, I accomplished this task. There was always one book out there that eluded me … the long out of print second volume of the Giffen/DeMatteis JLI series (The Secret Gospel of Maxwell Lord) … well, I found a copy on Amazon that a private owner was selling and paid $40 for it. I don’t know, for some reason I have the buyers remorse now. I don’t know if it is because I spent $40 plus shipping for a comic or that my quest is officially over. Has anyone else ever experienced this?”
“I did when i bought Lost Girls, i only paid like $45 for the thing, but when i read it i was like…”ok, well this will sit on a shelf for a while”…and it has”
“I think about the $100 I plunked down for the Crisis hardcover back in 1998, there’ll never be another one…yeah sure…my wife laughs at me even today…’this…$100…this one…$100′….bwaaahhaaahaa..pisses me off to no end…”
“In the last year I spent over 2 grand on tpb’s…not counting monthlies. Now I look and say what the heck did I do??…lol”
Where do these people get such disposible income? Why am I not as rich as these people? Wh… why…?
The world’s so unfair.

Buyer’s Remorse when completing a collection. I get it all the time, so I stopped and sold off a number of collections. And now I feel good. And I never paid any exhoribtant prices either.

Heh, that JLI paperback is now £72.50 on Amazon (about $140), or $18.50 on e-bay.
My copy cost me £3.

You didn’t mention that when the CRISIS hardcover was published in 1998 that it had a misprint (the same page printed twice) and you had to get a copy of the missing page to insert in the book yourself. A $100 book and they couldn’t even print it without a major error. I never believed them when they said it would never be reprinted because how could they speak for someone who wouldn’t be in DC’s management for 5 years, and who would decide it needs to go back into print?

James – Your memory is a bit faulty, I think… The Crisis hardcover did have an error, but it was pulled before release to have the error fixed via a tip-in page. There wasn’t a version released that had to be fixed yourself, I don’t think…?

Yeah, they pulped the entire first printing of the Crisis HC, they even included a poster to make up for the dely for the finished copy. That book always makes me mad when I look at it because I only bought the HC because DC’s then-collections head-dude said that they would not be printing a soft cover. Jokes on me…HA!
Incidentally, I also recently spent $40 on the JLI vol. 2 TPB, but I did get 6 other JLA trades with it in the deal (2 I already had), so I figure I still came out a little ahead. I couldn’t live without it though.

I’m working on my ASM run…To date I have from #145 to present in a perfect run (plus some earlier key issues) but now they are getting pretty pricey and I don’t know what to do b/c I will never be able to afford the earliest issues. I am feeling disappointed knowing I will never finish the run.
I am collecting USM but got on board late and need issues #1 – 5. AND I can’t bring myself to spend the big bucks on relatively new issues, especially when I own the first TPB. I still remember when the early McFarlane issues were going for big bucks.
Sigh.
Plus buying TPB at Canadian prices sucks. Marvel’s TPB prices are still pretty high compared to what our dollar is.
Double sigh.
I wish I could find a brand new series to latch onto that I could follow from start to finsih that won’t get cancelled (yes I am reading Manhunter).

I really regret buying the Alias trades before the Omnibus came out.
