ComicMix: Damn those Gamma Rays.

February 7th, 2007

Former DC editor Mike Gold returns a new pop-culture site with a lot of familiar names:

Beginning today, a group of veteran comics editors and digital entrepreneurs are launching Comicmix.com, a new pop culture Web site devoted to news and opinion on the comics industry, in addition to covering movies, TV, music and gaming.

The site will also feature columns and blogs from comics writer Peter David, longtime DC and Marvel comics editor Dennis O’Neil, pop culture and political blogger Elayne Riggs, comics writer John Ostrander and many others. The site will offer podcast comics reviews by a revolving crew of reviewers including well-known music writer Dave Marsh and others.

Mike Gold is the editor-in-chief of Comicmix. A 30 year veteran of the comics business, Gold has worked at DC Comics in addition to founding First Comics and working on a wide variety of comics projects for such companies as Image, Acclaim and IDW… “The comics industry began in the depression of the 1930s in the magazine business,” said Gold. “Now we’ve got new communication tools and people will be looking for new ways to read comics,” he said pointing to computers and digital distribution.”We want Comismix to be a portal to the 21st century.”

Right now,the site has one page, that says “Belted by gamma rays. Bear with us.” Either the PW story announcing the launch “today” (actually yesterday, when the story went live) was wrong, or this is not the most promising start…

Oh, ye of little faith. :)

Comics fans just have no patience… ;)

  2. Augie De Blieck Jr. Says:

That’s OK — after the first press releases went out yesterday announcing yesterday’s grand opening, the site was still password protected. This is a marked improvement.

  3. KHuxford Says:

LOL…they might have the same problem that Comicspace ran into… :)

  4. Rob Says:

I like it better than the PS3 launch

  5. Aaron Poehler Says:

I always wondered what happened to Mike Gold after I noticed I almost always liked titles he edited. Hoping this is cool.

  6. Scott KIng Says:

There was a new link that wasn’t there before and it brought me here! At least now I could click something when I went to the site.

  7. Michael Davis Says:

Let’s think..who would have the most to gain if the site had start up problems? How about the writers who are writing weekly columns and have NOT done the work?? EH?

Wait-I’m writing a column. Let’s just blame it on Bush and move on.

  8. Christopher Moonlight Says:

    I’m looking forward to this.

“We want Comismix to be a portal to the 21st century.” — was this from their own press release?

  10. Rockin' Rich Says:

Foolish humans! This is obviously the sequel to Sonic Disruptors… or maybe the continuation of The Shadow…

  11. mike baron Says:

All right, who made the Sonic Disruptors crack? You are closer than you know.

  12. Elayne Riggs Says:

Gamma rays thwarted – site up!
