Shawn Levy to direct The Flash

On the heels of Friday’s announcement of David S. Goyer’s departure from The Flash comes word that Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) will direct the Warner Bros. movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Levy, who’s also directed The Pink Panther and Cheaper By the Dozen, is said to want a lighter tone than Batman Begins or Superman Returns. Night at the Museum has earned $225 million at the box office.

Levy will oversee a script rewrite, which may incorporate some of Goyer’s ideas.

Goyer’s script involved both Wally West and Barry Allen as the Scarlet Speedster.

“I wanted to showcase the legacy aspect of the hero — as that was something that hadn’t been explored yet in film. Like Batman Begins, the script drew on some seminal comicbook runs (Mike Baron, Mark Waid, Geoff Johns),” Goyer wrote on his MySpace blog.
