If you’re in LA, then I’m very sorry for you. But if you’re in LA and a comics professional, then maybe this might be up your alley:
Save the date: THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22, at 7 P.M. That’s when we’re having the February edition of the L.A. comics professionals monthly dinner.
This month, the topic is GETTING ATTENTION FOR YOUR WORK. Writers and artists need publishers, publishers need retailers, and all of us need the news media — not to mention every potential reader we can get. There are some well-established ways to get their attention (convention season starts this month with the New York Comic-Con) and some new ways, too (ComicSpace, anyone?).
• Writers and artists, bring in tales of how your work caught your editor’s eye.
• Retailers, tell us about in-store signings and other events that pulled customers into your store. (Free Comic Book Day is coming, folks.)
• Publishers, tell us how you’ve publicized your publications.
• Editors, marketers, agents, distributors, webmasters — you’ve got stories, too.If you’re not familiar with this event, the dinner is — well, a dinner. Comics folk gather to eat, drink, gossip, laugh, show off new work (if you’re so inclined), and so on. It’s a good place to network; people have built friendships and business arrangements with others they’ve met at these dinners. The food’s good, too.
