Ever the wiseguy, whilst reviewing Blake Bell‘s new and very interesting blog BestofMostof, what caught my attention most of all amid all the cool comic culture therein: David Letterman getting his head handed to him for the last time by Harvey Pekar, the genius behind American Splendor, on Letterman’s late night show during its run on NBC via YouTube.
I never really understood why people think Letterman was so funny, then and now, so I was probably one of the few back then who really enjoyed Harvey needling the American chat host many liken to the real grandmaster of them all Johnny Carson. Neither Letterman, Jay Leno or Conan O’Brian (the worst of the lot) can hold a candle to Bill Maher, an intelligent interviewer whose wit has melted the egos of more than a few pundits…
BTW, one of Harvey’s favorite writing gigs, I suspect, these days besides American Splendor: Writing jazz reviews for the Austin Chronicle.

Wow, Wayne. Maher has always entertained me, don’t think he’s better than Letterman (honestly it’s an apples and oranges comparison for me, it’s like comparing Dennis Miller pundit era for Fox News to Dennis Miller’s late-night show where Andy Summers was the musical host [anyone else remember that?]). But boy, your pro-Maher stand has won you some new fans.
And I rank Leno far lower than Conan–read Bill Carter’s Late Shift book (the movie does NOT do it justice) for an idea why.
More importantly, I’m loving Blake Bell’s new blog, as clearly are you as well.

The next time I read a weblog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as a lot as this one. I mean, I know it was my choice to read, but I really thought youd have one thing fascinating to say.
