The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation has announced nominees for its 18th annual GLAAD Media Awards, which honors mainstream media for their “fair, accurate and inclusive” depictions of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders.
The nominees for Oustanding Comic Book are:
- 52, by Geoff Johns, Grant Morrison, Greg Rucka, Mark Waid (DC Comics)
- American Virgin, by Steven T. Seagle (Vertigo/DC Comics)
- Fun Home, by Alison Bechdel (Houghton Mifflin)
- Manhunter, by Marc Andreyko (DC Comics)
- Y: The Last Man, by Brian K. Vaughn (Vertigo/DC Comics)

Previous winners in the comic-book category include Young Avengers, Luba, Catwoman and Green Lantern.
Award ceremonies be divided among four cities: New York, March 26; Los Angeles, April 14; San Francisco, April 28; and Miami, May 10. The New York and LA ceremonies will be broadcast April 21 on Logo.

First off, “Fun Home” should win this one hands down. An excellent graphic novel from Alison Bechdel.
Secondly, interesting that all the other nominees are DC comics. Looks like Freedom Ring’s death wasn’t seen as a shining moment in GLBT comics.
