Interesting.

From the Talk@ boards: Iron Man – Steve Rogers available for pre-order on Amazon. Now, we know that Marvel like to do fake covers to throw people off the scent, and we know that Amazon tends to offer up somewhat incorrect information based on publisher announcements… So what are the odds of this being real…?
(Alternately, what’s the chances that this is a trade collecting post CW material, and it means “Iron Man co-starring with Steve Rogers”? That would collect Civil War: The Confession and potentially Civil War: The Initiative, which would explain the Silvestri art above…)
January 19th, 2007 at 4:29 pm
Huh. My first assumption was that maybe it was some random What If? story being reprinted, but I think you give some evidence otherwise (the post CW collection is my guess, too). Not a fan of Silvestri’s work, but this shot is nice, and surprisingly, I really like that armor design.
January 19th, 2007 at 4:34 pm
It seems to be written by the Iron Man crew, not by Brubaker, which if true, would be dissapointing to say the least.
January 19th, 2007 at 4:35 pm
That wasn’t a knock on the Iron Man writing team, I just love what Brubaker has done with Captain America and if this is the direction they decide to take him in, he’s the one I would trust with it. After all, he brought back Bucky, and it rocks.
January 19th, 2007 at 4:37 pm
Why isn’t something this potentially big shown as a feature article?
January 19th, 2007 at 4:38 pm
It’s an Amazon pre-release page. Even if the book really exists, it’s very, very possible (if not likely) that the credits are wrong.
January 19th, 2007 at 4:40 pm
Well, they did Iron Spidey, so why not Iron Cap? Unless Tony the Traitor offs Cap and decides to “honor” him by soiling his memory as well.
Stupid drunk.
January 19th, 2007 at 4:40 pm
Betcha 50 bucks its a real cover, colored different to throw people off. If sort of a shitty coloring job anyhow.
January 19th, 2007 at 4:44 pm
This is what it says on Amazon-”We learn that Tony stark was never in the iron man suit!! From the beginning Steve Rogers was Iron MAN and Stark was just the public image/persona. Rogers was never frozen after WW2, It turns out that was his clone, part of the super soldier program (I guess they had cloning tech back in the 40′s).
CRAP!
January 19th, 2007 at 4:48 pm
Isn’t it more likely this just something for Bullet Points, the JMS miniseries that already has Stever Rogers as Iron Man?
January 19th, 2007 at 4:49 pm
I seriously doubt that that’s true, Adam. The timing alone makes me think that someone’s just trying it on.
January 19th, 2007 at 4:50 pm
Wow, this is so fake it’s not even funny. Bravo, Marvel, Bra-VO.
January 19th, 2007 at 4:52 pm
More end of Civil War intrigue over at Wizard with Jeph Loeb talking about Fallen Son:

January 19th, 2007 at 5:02 pm
The comment above about Iron Man and Steve Rogers was not there when I went to Amazon earlier today.
Could it be a Novel? Paperback is not Trade exclusive on Amazon is it?
I like the suit.
January 19th, 2007 at 5:05 pm
Isn’t the suit exactly the same as the Iron Man one now, but just in different colors?
January 19th, 2007 at 5:06 pm
Real or not, that is one wicked awesome suit design.
January 19th, 2007 at 5:06 pm
thor was on that wizard article in the art… is he the suprise fifth installment?
January 19th, 2007 at 5:07 pm
“In short, when you see Jeph Loeb’s name attached to something, it’s a pretty safe bet it’s going to be big.”
A big piece of hackwork built on the works of Chris Claremont, Stan the Man, and others who actually have something to say.
January 19th, 2007 at 5:15 pm
Looking at the pic, it seems to be a quick Photoshop job of blue overlaying over Ironman’s normal suit colors. I think the original image will be normal Ironman yellow and gold armor with Cap’s battered shield as his trophy….it’s not looking good for Steve Rogers at all here:(
January 19th, 2007 at 5:16 pm
That is one pretty looking cover.
January 19th, 2007 at 5:25 pm
This is listed as being written by Daniel Knauf who was the writer/creator of Carnivale on HBO. I would be thsi is an Elseworlds/What if kind of deal.
January 19th, 2007 at 5:33 pm
Daniel and Charlie Knauf have been co-writing Iron Man for nearly a year. Because everyone forgot the series existed, thanks to Ellis and Granov, no one’s noticed.
Note: Cap’s battered shield looks like the one in promo materials for Civil War: The Initative, so that’s likely the true cover.
January 19th, 2007 at 5:35 pm
dude looks like Citizen V. kinda.
January 19th, 2007 at 5:42 pm
I’m thinking this is the actual cover to Civil War: The Initiative #1. I mean, look at the shield and helmet compared to the image linked to below: they’re the same (except the helmet is colored differently).
http://www.newsarama.com/marvelnew/CivilWar/CWInitiative.html
January 19th, 2007 at 5:56 pm
I actually like the cover although I do have to agree that it looks like an Iron Version of Citizen V’s outfit.
January 19th, 2007 at 6:16 pm
Isn’t Cap’s sheild made out of adamantium?
January 19th, 2007 at 6:49 pm
That would make a nice toy
January 19th, 2007 at 6:52 pm
Look! He coloured it different to piss you off!
Nice try Silvestri.
January 19th, 2007 at 6:53 pm
His shield is made of “a unique Vibranium-Adimantium (sic) alloy that has never been duplicated,” per Marvel.com.
I remember in an old Avengers issue when he threw it at the Absorbing Man, and Ms. Marvel said “What’s your shield made out of? I want to know what we’ll be fighting.”
January 19th, 2007 at 6:58 pm
What if, somehow, at the end of Civil War Steve gets the Iron man suit and the job as SHIELD head honcho and Tony ends up as Ronin? Yeah, probably not, now that I type it out loud, given that we see Iron Man j’accusing Danny Rand in the New Avengers promo stuff.
January 19th, 2007 at 7:48 pm
Sorry, not to be nit-picky but Cap’s shield is made out of a vibranium/steel alloy that has never been duplicated. But the reverse engineering of it is what lead to the discovery of adamantium. So it would be possible to break it, but very difficult.
January 19th, 2007 at 7:55 pm
If you recall, Cap’s shield has been broken (during Mark Waid’s run) and it was dented by Thor (in Avengers, I believe).
January 19th, 2007 at 10:20 pm
Isn’t Steve Rogers Iron Man in JMS’ mini-series, Bullet Points?
-James
January 19th, 2007 at 11:02 pm
Cute, Silvestri. I’m done with anything ‘New’ Avengers related. But still a neat pic.
January 19th, 2007 at 11:09 pm
At the very least, it looks damn cool.
January 20th, 2007 at 12:31 am
Hey isn’t somebody decisive supposed to change sides in CW #7? Well since we know who’s gonna win (way to keep the secret Marvel) and we know someone new is gonna be director of SHEILD then here’s guessing Iron Man and Cap are gonna be the same guy. Question is, who? I’m thinking Steve Rogers will be director of SHEILD and Tony Stark will be Iron Cap. Mind blowing eh?
January 20th, 2007 at 1:04 am
Nothing personal, but are you people idiots or something?
1. Do you not see where it says “Collects Iron Man 15-18″
2. The “We learn that Tony stark was never in the iron man suit!!” quote was a review not part of the solicit.
3. Silvestri drew the cover, he didn’t color it.
4. Covers aren’t literal. Just because there are bullet holes in the Shield doesn’t mean that is actually what happens to the shield in the story.
January 20th, 2007 at 5:59 am
Where are his feet?!?!
January 20th, 2007 at 6:04 am
I like it. Amalgamated characters are fun and it would make a cool action figure.
January 20th, 2007 at 10:23 am
I didn’t read the solicit, but my first thought was that this could be from Bullet Points by JMS. He has Steve Rogers in the Iron Man suit in that book. It would be a huge coincidence if the real Marvel U went that same direction…and not one I’d like.
January 20th, 2007 at 10:25 am
Owkay…
Maybe I’m going way too CSI into all of this but doesn’t anyone find it strange that both shield and armour are pierced by what appear to be small calibre rounds?
If so… That would be enough gun to even rattle the Saint of Killers.
Nice art though.
January 20th, 2007 at 1:40 pm
Tom: “Nothing personal, but are you people idiots or something?”
The “collects Iron Man #15 – 18″ thing wasn’t there when the post went up. Apart from that, I’m definitely an idiot…
January 20th, 2007 at 2:41 pm
Yes, Steve is Iron Man in the JMS Bullet Points story, however, Tommy Lee Edwards is providing the covers. Not Silvestri.
January 20th, 2007 at 2:45 pm
Dallas Barr: “That would be enough gun to even rattle the Saint of Killers.”
The Saint of Killers withstood a nuke and took on… well, I don’t want to spoiler Preacher. Regardless, those rounds wouldn’t even slow him down.
January 21st, 2007 at 8:31 am
True, but adamantium or vribranium piercing rounds would still make an amazing weapon.
January 21st, 2007 at 9:07 am
two observations, the colors dont match up, that is the red and blue of the shield are different than those on the armor, seems if you were desining a new set of armor it would match(or maybe the colorist is just shitty)also who buries their feet in the sand to strike a dramatic pose? cant silvestri draw feet yet? lame
January 21st, 2007 at 9:12 am
oh.. and wouldn’t there be some resemblense to caps other costume if it were him, i mean a star or stripes somewhere on this?! i do believe this to be a quick recolor job of what will be a normal iron man holding caps shield. anything else will suck!
January 21st, 2007 at 11:03 am
obviously a put togeter image as the shield is fromthe cover ofcivil war initiative, same exact just cut and pasted on over a photoshoped image of an iron man.
January 21st, 2007 at 12:27 pm
“obviously a put togeter image as the shield is fromthe cover ofcivil war initiative, same exact just cut and pasted on over a photoshoped image of an iron man.”
I think this is the real cover to Civil War: The Initiative #1 (re-colored, of course). Not only is the shield the same one we’ve seen, but so is the helmet. The black one was obviously sent around to avoid (possible) spoilers.
January 21st, 2007 at 5:26 pm
the blue/white colouring looks be shopped.
I can tell cos a few of the pixels, and because i’ve seen a lot of shops in my time.
fracking 4chan references…
January 21st, 2007 at 8:12 pm
Whether it’s Steve Rodgers or Tony Stark in the suit, the most important issue is this: WHERE ARE HIS FEET? I noticed this while re-reading an old issue of Spawn. Why do you see so many action poses not have feet, or they’re just buried like some kid came up with a plastic bucket and shovel and just pulled a fast one.
January 21st, 2007 at 9:10 pm
It’s not up on the Amazon.com site anymore.
January 22nd, 2007 at 1:42 am
Interesting pic. Probably fake.
On a non-related note:
I think Aunt May is gonna be dead … soon.
I just read an interview with Loeb on April’s “Fallen Son” project. Are they killing Mr. Fantastic?!?! Pause for reflection on Loeb’s interview and the cover for FF 545. No Sue, No Reed. hmmm …
January 22nd, 2007 at 6:11 am
I DUB THEE:
CAPTAIN IRONICA!
January 22nd, 2007 at 7:18 am
Director of SHIELD holding Cap’s shield?
January 22nd, 2007 at 12:00 pm
Maybe… just maybe, its both Tony and Steve inside that suit. It seems big enough to fit them both.
January 22nd, 2007 at 2:28 pm
The Amazon link is dead! ooohhhh ahhhh
January 22nd, 2007 at 5:05 pm
Sure looks like something shiny in terms of the art. Didn’t think Adi Granov was still working the Iron Man from the looks of that visual.
January 22nd, 2007 at 10:47 pm
Anyone else think. That Cap will die and bucky(winter soldier) will replace him…
January 25th, 2007 at 6:55 pm
It is very possible that it is steve in the suit. If anyone read the Mighty avengers preview it obviously isn’t tony in the suit. Soooo… my moneys on Cap or an new super recruiter.
