I guess that’s one way to go. Might work. After all, it’s not something DC’s trying with any other character.

  2. Michael K. Willis Says:

“See ya around, sucker!”…what a hoot :-) Young Mary won’t be everybody’s cup of tea but I think she’s looks to be a delightful scene-stealer. What grand fun this series promises to be.

  3. The Ugly American Says:

Anything is better than “Trials of Shazam” and it’s terrible writing and skull-face-shaped pointy-chinned women.

  4. Matt D Says:

Yikes, I am not feeling that at all.

But it’s Jeff Smith, so I’m sure it’ll work beautifully when I’ve actually got the thing in front of me.

You know what would be cool? If REGULAR NEWSARAMA had an RSS feed, not just the BLOG.

No offense intended to you blog kids.

  6. Shawn Levasseur Says:

off topic, but yeah, I would like an RSS feed for the news.

  7. Mark Engblom Says:

Eh, leave the regular Newsarama site for the press release crap. I like the “anything goes” feel of the blog.

As for Smith’s Mary Marvel, I’m fine with the little girl spin on the character. It’s something different and it also puts even more distance between Smith’s take and DC’s current demolition of the SHAZAM concept.

Just don’t give her TOO much screentime.

  8. David Horenstein Says:

The main problem Shazam has had over the years, was that the adult versions of the characters acted too adult. Shazam should be a super-hero version of “Big” or “13 Going on 30.” Yeah, they’re smart. Yeah, they’re strong. But, they are very immature.

Of course, that opinion has nothing to do with Jeff’s version of Mary Marvel. It’s cute and could work, but I agree with Mark Engblom. It should be limited.

  9. W. Pardllow Says:

Seeing as how Mary was allowed to grow-up to become fodder for fan boy wet dreams, this is a welcomed change. Returning her to the innocence the characters really all about.
And who knows if there’s another series after this one, maybe it will pick-up later on when she’s 10 or 12.
Just have to hope it’s Jeff again.
