Can’t Wait For Wednesday

January 16th, 2007
Author Lisa Fortuner

This week in the US we had a federal holiday for Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday. Normally this means a delay, but the Diamond Comic Distributors website makes no notes about this. As far anyone knows, the US readers will get their comics on time.

With that out of the way, let’s see what the Blog@ team is waiting on:

Melissa Krause’s Pick of the Week

I’ll go with Wisdom #2. I want to see if it tops the gun-toting fairy from last issue.

Tom Bondurant’s Pick of the Week

I’m going with JLA Classified #32, the first issue of Dan Slott and Dan Jurgens’ arc (with Doctor Destiny, if you needed more “D”s). I’ve wanted to see Slott on another DC book ever since his excellent Arkham Asylum miniseries a few years ago, so him writing the Justice League is a no-brainer.

JK Parkin’s Pick of the Week

It’s kind of a quiet week, so I’ll go with a regular favorite: Y The Last Man #53.

Lisa Fortuner’s Pick of the Week

My money’s reserved for The Spirit #2. I was expecting a disaster with this relaunch, but Cooke managed to pull it off. In addition to that Castle Waiting #4 will be on the racks and I have been addicted to this series since reading the hardcover.

Take a look at Diamond’s shipping list and tell us what you’ll be buying this week.

We’ve ALL been waiting for Slott’s “RED KING” JLA arc for quite a few years now; ever since the King appeared as a villain description in a JLA Secret Files. I think that might have been around the time Identity Crisis came out.

Federal Holidays do not affect Diamond’s comic delivery. UPS holidays do. It would truly be sad if things like MLKjr Day and President’s Day delayed new comic day.

Desperadoes: Buffalo Dreams #1 looks good and I’ve enjoyed the current story in GL so Green Lantern #16 gets picked too. The JLA Classified could be a hidden gem in a fairly light week from Diamond.

  3. Tom Bondurant Says:

What’s more, Peter Milligan’s “Kid Amazo” arc is coming in April, after being first scheduled as a hardcover for April 2004.

Small week for me. So yeah, I’m also going with long favorite Y: The Last Man #53 as it gets closer to the end.

From the West Coast, I’m most looking forward to (the delayed) Nightly News #3.

I remember Slott telling me about this arc way back in 2003. Of course, that was before he was Marvel exclusive, and Jurgens was only penciling it, instead of scripting it over Slott’s plot.

Yes, because comics one day sooner are more important then taking time to remember and honor what great things people such as MLK did for this country.

I’m looking forward to Green Lantern #16 this week

Yes, it would be truly sad. I’m glad you agree and are brave enough to say so. And second my pick of Green Lantern #16.

You also forgot to mention Presidents Lincoln and Washington as having done great things but I’m sure that was mere oversight.

The original Martin Luther also did great things but has no holiday to commemorate his life and work. The same can be said of Tesla, Steve Jobs, Jonas Salk, and Socrates. These guys must not have the right political interest groups and party caucuseslobbying on their behalf.

Still no one honors MLKjr, Washington or Lincoln on their holidays. It’s just another day for lazy people not to work and go to the mall or the movies instead. I spent the day eating burgers, drinking beer, and having sex. Too lazy to even read a comic book. Don’t know that this honored anyone. Still our comics are coming on time and that’s what counts. Otherwise why post on a comic blog?
