The Bendis Board: We only like things hard if they’re big.

Jeez, you sleep in on your day off and when you get up, everyone’s done linked everything already. Well, apart from the Bendis Board’s rebellion:

“Sign the Boycott Marvel Premiere HC Petition! Due to some of the discussion in other threads, I went ahead and drew up this petition. Don’t worry, there’s space for individual comments as well. Make your voices heard people! If you believe this format is hurting readership, sales, business, etc. then sign up!”

Yes, they’re protesting a format for collecting books. And they’re serious, as well:

“I support this 100%. I’ve never bought one of those things and I never will.”

“The format is great for things like Wolverine: Weapon X, The Punisher: Circle of Blood or Kraven’s Last Hunt. On the other hand, I hate that it fucks with the oversized hardcover publication. The CE dept. says it doesn’t but ever since the premieres started coming out, I’ve seen less and less OHCs.”

“I don’t care one way or another if Marvel makes PHC’s. On a title like Moon Knight where I’m waiting for the trade to read it, that is exactly what I’m doing. Waiting for the trade. I’m not going to buy the PHC because it is the first collection of the story, but I certainly don’t care if other people buy it. If that is the format they want, good for them.”

(It all gets started here, if you have to have “context”.)

Do I have to sign if I had no intention of buying any of them anyway?

Useful for a boycott, then. I’m sure Marvel is quaking in their boots at the prospect of someone who was never going to buy a product boycotting that product.

  3. Augie De Blieck Jr. Says:

I like the oversized format better (me likey big art), and am a bit concerned over Marvel’s plans for ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN CLONE SAGA, but I’m not starting up any petitions. . .

  4. Scott Iskow Says:

I’m not too fond of the premiere HCs, mainly because they put off the trade paperbacks (my preferred format) for an additional six months. Marvel also seems inconsistent in choosing which books get the premiere treatment. (Apparently the first two volumes of Captain America warrant it, but the following volumes aren’t good enough. Shyeah, okay.)
