Over at Your Mom’s Basement, it’s time to step into the way back machine:
YMB was cleaning up the basement last week and found something… Wizard issue number 65. Their “year-end spectacular” for 1996. As we begin 2007, YMB thought a look back to the state of the industry a decade ago might be worthwhile.
Won’t you join us in a little trip down memory lane? We’ll go dancing in the dark. We’ll go walking through the park and reminiscing…
Worryingly enough, it both seems like a long time ago and hideously contemporary…

I can’t get the link to work, but a few years ago I found a Wizard article from I think 1993, asking creators to predict 2003. It was interesting, and there were a few good (and horribly off) predictions.

The end of the Spider-clone Saga… ah, good times. Good times.

That was the first issue of Wizard I ever bought. Actually, my mom probably bought it for me – at a grocery store, where I also got my first comics.
Maybe it’s just nostalgia, but I remember Wizard being pretty good back then – lots more content, lots less focus on movies. Sometime in that next year they ran an article on whether Preacher was a worthy successor to Sandman as Vertigo’s flagship book – the first I’d heard of either. Can you imagine that from Wizard nowadays?

This was actually the very first issue of Wizard I every read.
