Comics: ‘More violent, sexy and godless than ever’

January 8th, 2007
Author Kevin Melrose

If any sentence is crying out to be made into a marketing slogan, it’s this one, from an article in Utah’s Deseret Morning News about Christian comic books: “Comic books today have generally become more violent, sexy and godless than ever.”

An exception, the newspaper notes, is “Christian-based comic books,” including one written by actor Stephen Baldwin, called Spirit Warriors. It’s released by Nashville-based B&H Publishing, the focus of the article.

“If you bring the kids dorkville they don’t listen,” Baldwin is quoted as saying in a press release. “If you bring them really cool, they’ll listen … because all of this is really about sharing the news about a man named Jesus Christ.”

Y’know, “violent, sexy and godless” is a really great tagline.

And, based on that quote, I’d love to read Baldwin’s Spirit Warriors, because comics written by people who can barely speak the language are awesome.

  2. Dean Trippe Says:

Gotta trick them heathen kids into loving the Lord somehow!

  3. Alan Coil Says:

Stephen Baldwin is an idiot, and his brothers should have held his head under the bathtub water under he was more brain damaged than he is.
