On his ComicSpace page, Dave Ryan provides details on War of the Independents, a mega-crossover project that will unite Madman, Mr. Monster, Shi, Shadowhawk and a ton of other heroes who were feeling left out of Civil War and Infinite Crisis:
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!! The deadline for joining the War was Jan. 1st. There are so many indies and creators out there, some of which I’ve never even heard of, that to be fair I allowed anyone who asked to be involved in it. Let the games begin!
“War of the Independents” crossover series will be launching in July 2008. It will be co-written with Richard Kane Ferguson and inked by Peter Palmiotti.
It will be co-published with Arcana and follow a 4 issue lead-in series called “Penance” launching in July 2007.

That in no way looks like a piece of Steve McNiven art that Marvel was using to promote Civil War.
No, sir, no way indeed.

2008? i understand the legal mess this crossover must entail.. but still… 2008?

Steve McNiven is an awesome artist and it is only a testament to his skill and of course a parody of Marvel’s civil war that the piece was concieved. I hope you will all give the series a shot, as many new and unseen creators will be debuting their characters in the series. Please feel free to stop by the Arcana booth at the NYC Comic Con for a poster of the finished piece.
Happy New Year to all!

I would have loved to particpate in this if I knew. Good luck with the project.

its gonna be fun, dave and his crew are committed…and really, something this big will take a year.
I would rather a team tell me a book will take so long to do than it be solicited and then not come out for a year after…which we see all the time. take your time guys and do it right. its gonna be a blast!

Sounds like it could be fun stuff.

Wow, this is actually a pretty cool idea. Hope it’s done well. If I hear good things about it, I will get it in Trade Paperback.

I am really looking forward to this project!

Nice!
January 7th, 2007 at 12:20 pm
Looks great! Wish I could have been part of it. More power to the indies!

Looks great. How could anyone pass up the opportunity to see old favorites along with characters we haven’t discovered yet?
January 8th, 2007 at 10:29 am
I’m really excited to be participating in this. I know it seems so far off but something of this nature will take this long to develop. As much as I like Civil War, it seems that it was rushed onto Marvel’s schedule to even out Infinite Crisis.

This is going to be excellent!
I wouldn’t wait for the TPB, Jason. Each creator has the ability to publish (a) crossover issue(s)in their own titles . . . so a TPB is almost a legal impossibility for the crossover issues other than the main story.
I’m not sure how many other creators will be doing their own tie-in issues, but I’m certainly planning to.

I’m proud and honoured to be a part of this amazing upcoming storyline. The Wraith will play an important role in War of the Independents, and I also intend doing a crossover issue of The Wraith to tie-in to WotI.

When I was asked to participate I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I’m honored to have Koni Waves involved in something this big.

Don’t worry about it being so far off; there will be many goodies along the way!!!
January 9th, 2007 at 5:38 pm
AWESOME! I can’t wait for this.

First of all,… Thank you Dave Ryan! The world will know your talent when this baby comes out. It’s truely an honor to be a part of this killer. I’m hard at work on the cover as well as the prelude to ‘WAR’ called Penance! This will be our tour de force, and your a real genius as well as a hell of a nice guy! Please everyone, come out and see us at the New york Comiccon this Febuary over at Arcana’s table for a print of this very cover all inked and colored!
Thanks to all you fans and fellow comic creators. But a very special thanks to Jimmy Palmiotti, for your support and constant joy at what we do! I love you bro.
cheers all….peter.

I am proud to be a part of and have JETTA included in this event and I can’t wait to see it hit the stands in force. Something of this size will need a year to promote and complet correctly. I, for one, am deeply excited about the tie-ins that will be available!
This is going to rock the industry and I can’t wait.
