Waking up with the big red “S”

December 29th, 2006
Author JK Parkin

On Gearlog, a gadget blog, poster Andre Bermudez celebrates receiving a Superman alarm clock for Christmas:

Getting out of bed in the morning is no easy feat for me, but now I wake up refreshed to the Superman theme song. The inspirational John Williams score plays loudly on my new AM/FM clock radio and if I feel I need more rest before I head out into Metropolis I can just smack the giant “S” symbol that doubles as the snooze button. Of course, it also comes with a traditional alarm sound if epic theme music isn’t your cup of tea in the morning. The Superman alarm clock can also project the time and Superman symbol onto the wall or ceiling (I had fun teasing my cat with this feature). It takes a 9V battery for backup purposes as well.

So what comic-related gifts did you get this year?

I got a bag of random comics from my brother, including a VIZ Annual (filthy!), two Busiek/Nicieza Superman comics (uplifting!), Exterminators #11 (MY EYES, MY BEAUTIFUL EYES), Outsiders #41 (dear god, no) and a Spider-Man Unmasked tie-in that I shan’t be reading (recyclable!).

It was a hella odd pressie, but a thoughtful one.

I got the Superman Ultimate Boxset from Grandma, the Superman Guide by Scott Beatty from my cousins and the Harvey Pekar edited best of 2006 book from my Mom. I may be forgetting one or two items.

That alarm clock is pretty sweet.

I received the Tick season 1 on DVD (the animated version), Making Comics by Scott McCloud, Watchmen and Inside the World of Comics, featuring an essay by our own Tom Bondurant.

I got a nifty Spider-Man T-shirt, a $20 gift certif. for my local comics shop and a $25 gift certif. at the big chain bookstore that I will likely spend on something comic related.

Adam Strange Archive Edition Vol. 1

    Yessssss.

That’s a pretty groovy alarm clock. We got my son a similar Batman one a couple years ago. I don’t know if it does any theme music though. Gotta check that out.

Santa brought me Bone One Volume for Christmas. Not comic related, but still pretty cool–gotta Gameboy Micro in the stocking, too. My son just got a Gameboy Advanced a few months ago, so I can play all of his games! Yay!

Thank you for the sensible critique. Me & my neighbour were preparing to do some research about that. We got a good book on that matter from our local library and most books where not as influensive as your information. I am very glad to see such information which I was searching for a long time.

Do you think the housing crisis is over and we have entered a post boom real estate industry? I consider the economy needs to fully recover before we have adequate persons confident enought to buy new homes. In this market its challenging to make a long term investment and burden oneself with more debt with as much uncertainty is in the air.
