Interestingly enough,

I think that Byrne himself did a huge, huge part in humanizing Superman. I pretty much see him as Clark now, in part thanks to the post-Crisis revamp where he became less of a myth and more of a rounded character.

It’s like this. To obsessive comic book fans, these guys aren’t just comic book characters, they’re real people, that we pretty much know. Fantasy characters that to us, seem real. It gets into Morrisonian metaphysics.
