Yeah, let's not forget that cheap exploitational Blade cover. That type of malicious use of Christmas just to gouge for sales isn't really necessary.

At least the Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special, had some sense of fun about itself (a bit twisted admittedly).

Also though, the Image Holiday Special from last year was a really good one too.

I had forgotten the dc comics presents: Superman and Santa Claus. Also the old Archies Christmas Stockings were probably one of the longest running series of annual Christmas comics.

DC puplished at least two Rudolh Comics One in 1950 and one in 1962. I think the 1976 Edition used the artwork from them.

Well, I didn't forget Ambush Bug or the Hulk in this thread I started at Newsarama. Also have a pretty sweet Spectre cover and a Bizarre Adventures cover, and more:

Hey, you forgot Incredible Hulk #378 (I think I may be off by a few issues) with the grey Hulk clobbering Santa. "Because you demanded it, the most unexpected villain of all!"

It's actually the Rhino. The Santa hat covered the horn.

Also, it is a shame that rights issues (I assume) keep a Mayer Rudolph collection from seeing print. Those stories were a lot of fun, and I can only imagine such a book would be a perennial seller. I think you could probably get all of them--the original, 13-issue comic and the later tabloid stories, which I believe were newly published at the time--in two volumes. It would certainly have a huge built-in audience that Mayer's other work lacks, as good as it is.

Everybody should make their own Christmas Floor yo-yo. It rules.

Punch holes in the lid and bottom of the can, and string the rubber band through, with a fishing weight suspended in the middle. Roll it across the floor; the lead weight winds the rubber band, causing the can to roll back to you as the band unwinds. What makes it all Christmasy is the Sheldon Mayer Santa Claus drawing you were supposed to cut out and wrap around the can.

Comics can teach us so much.

Thanks, Cole. Maybe that means it was bought for me after all. (Take <i>that</i>, big brother!)

Now that you mention the "sky hole," I vaguely remember the upside down world. The instruction page doesn't ring a bell, though. I was a destructive child, so I might've torn that out.

Kevin, you're reading your GCD wrong: "the 1972 series" refers to when the tabloids started. That particular issue of Rudolph came out for Christmas 1976--I was there, I was 5 years old, and I got it. (Note that GCD lists C-49 as Oct-Nov 76.)

I don't recall anything about a hot-air balloon anywhere but the cover, but there are stories about Rudolph and his pal (a beaver, I think) getting a crystal ball from a magician, Rudolph falling through a "sky hole" and getting trapped in an upside-down land where an evil Santa wears a boot on his head and takes presents instead of giving them, and a cranky bear who who's about to wreck Christmas because all the presents have run out--until Santa and the gang make him a floor yo-yo. There's also an instruction page for making your own floor yo-yo out of a coffee can, a lead weight and a rubber band which is all kinds of awesome.

Yeah, it's funny that Kitty is Jewish. But maybe it's more funny that the issue involves Kitty at home alone being chased by a demon (not the Brood) while everyone else is out celebrating the birth of the Baby Jesus.

And the issue is a shameful, and self-aware, rip-off of Alien.
