Am I the only person who’d missed the line-up of writers for Dark Horse’s new Buffy series until now? It’s not just Joss Whedon, as Wizard explains:
Whedon says he’ll write several of the book’s arcs, including the first, “The Long Way Home” with art by Georges Jeanty. For the rest, Whedon has assembled a veritable who’s who of comic book writing talent that includes Brian K. Vaughan (Ex Machina), Brad Meltzer (Justice League of America) and Jeph Loeb (Onslaught Reborn), along with former “Buffy” TV writers Jane Espenson, Drew Goddard, Drew Greenberg and Steven DeKnight.
“I have some extremely powerhouse comic book people who surprisingly threw their hats in, and then some of my best show writers,” says Whedon. “I approached the guys I did because I knew they could bring something—not just get it done, but really bring something to the party.”

Any chance they’ll mix and match? It would be nice to have someone with an understanding of the characters working with someone with an understanding of the form. Ah hell, I’m looking forward to this.

That is one sweet lineup. Once I heard Whedon was essentially executive producing the new series, I was disappointed (thinking it was more a marketing ploy than anything else). Guess I have to take that back. Heck, even some of my non-comic book reading friends (who are, of course, Buffy fans( want to check out this series.

So, what exactly is Meltzer “bringing to the party”? Is he the designated driver?
Ah, well. Maybe he’ll surprise me.
And why no Ben Edlund?

IIRC, when the book was first announced it was assumed the Buffy guys would be hanging with Whedon, but not Rapey McRapesalot and The Hackiest Hack Ever to Hack.

The group is missing one of the best all around Buffy scribes, Christopher Golden. He is in my opinion the person who knows these characters best after the creator. Best of the Novels are written by Golden.

The time Giles and Buffy’s mom slept together (under ‘the influence’)? Rape.
Now we’ll find out he murdered her too!
