Can’t Wait for Wednesday!

Can't Wait For Wednesday!

‘Twas the week before Christmas and all through the blog,
Everything was working like a well-oiled cog,
Then JK received an email from Chris that would say
He needed a replacement for Can’t Wait for Wednesday!

On Fables, on Criminal, on Wasteland, on Bomb Queen … we’re smack dab in the middle of the holidays, and what do the comic companies give us this week? Lots and lots of great new comics. Dark Horse gives us another issue of the Tim Truman-written Conan, along with a new Criminal Macabre mini. DC wraps up Secret Six and A Man Called Kev, while Marvel drops a few more Civil War titles into our midst (and She-Hulk!) We’ve also got a new Pirates of Coney Island, Seven Brothers, Ursa Minors, a new Mome, Maintenance (my pick from last week) and a ton of other stuff … can you tell it’s the week before Christmas and one of the last opportunities for publishers to get their stuff out before the calendar flips?

And if you are still looking for gifts, a lot of trades and hardcovers are coming out Wednesday, like the Busiek-written Aquaman, more Fables, Black Coat, Deadworld, Daredevil:Father, Thor:Blood Oath, the Miller/Claremont Wolverine and many more.

Now let’s see what Santa’s elves will be reading behind the bleachers when they should be finishing up the toys …

Tom Bondurant’s Pick of the Week

She-Hulk #14 for me. Awesome Andy’s had his heart broken, and one of the most offbeat romances in superhero comics is apparently toast, but he’s going to be okay, right? RIGHT?!?

Lisa Fortuner’s Pick of the Week

I’m interested in outer space as usual, Ion and Omega Men this week.

Graeme McMillan’s Pick of the Week

The Justice League of America Hereby Elects ...

While I yet again marvel at Marvel’s schedule - No Civil War books for the last couple of weeks, and then three this week? Good planning, House of Ideas! - I have to admit that I am, kind of, tempted by the first issue of New Avengers: Illuminati #1, because, well, it might be fun and I am a sap and oh God this will ruin my Bendis-hatin’ rep (Secretly, I think he’s a pretty good writer who occasionally gets carried away on schtick, but it’s easier for everyone to go with the “I hate everything Marvel publishes” thing, right?). That said, it’s DC’s trade paperback program that wins my dollar bills this week: Fables Vol. 8 and Justice League of America Hereby Elects… both fulfill very different comic needs, from basic good fun stories to crazy nostalgic tales full of men with heads shaped like keys. Tis the season to be greedy after all, wouldn’t you agree?

The bakers meet Jingle Belle

JK Parkin’s Pick of the Week

My pick is the Bakers meet Jingle Belle, featuring a holiday crossover between Kyle Baker’s family and Paul Dini’s Jingle Belle. This will likely be the best holiday special of the year.

What are you looking forward to this week? What books are on your naughty and nice list? Check out Diamond’s shipping list and let us know.

    Lone Ranger #3.

This series has absolutely wowed me with the first 2 issues, and I’m hoping the goodness continues…

I like how Black Lightning is running away from all the white people.

“Now’s my chance. Stupid white people and their akward perspective!”

  3. ubershep Says:

Oh, and my pick was “Bakers meed Jingle Belle.” Both series are a blast, and I can’t wait to pick it up and laugh my ass off.

  5. Dan Coyle: No Turning Back Says:

Comics what I’m looking forward to:

Transformers Spotlight: Sixshot- because, uhhhhh… Sixshot? All the other one-shots I can understand, but Sixshot?

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre #2- the first issue was excellent, funny, and everything the recent movies weren’t.

Civil War: War Crimes- the follow up to Underworld, one of the most underrated and morbidly funny series of the year.

Kind of slim pickings this week. I guess I’ll take Criminal #3, Rex Mundi #3, and Lone Ranger #3. All three’s, all the time.
