Tintin Pantoja …. future comic superstar?

Tintin Pantoja's Wonder Woman

With a name like Tintin Pantoja, it was almost like she was born to draw comics … her website, Mental Tentacle, is worth checking out, if only to see her six-page proposal for a manga version of Wonder Woman.

  1. Dan Coyle: No Turning Back Says:

I know Pantoja is an unknown, but I’m shocked that wasn’t picked up.

I mean, didn’t Jill Thompson’s manga take on Death sell well? So it stands to reason a Thompson-esque Wonder Woman would at least merit some attention in the market.

Perhaps, like Thompson, she’ll be snapped up by the book companies, and good for her.

Am I the only one who groans at the thought of another western artist drawing in manga style?

  3. Kolimar Says:

That’s a really nice proposal with great art. Cool name, too. Tintin Pantoja. :D Just mouthing it gives me an odd pleasure.

    Drool…

YES, Wonder Woman could use the boost of a manga style book. (And by manga style I hope that includes the type of storytelling, not just the art and printed format)

I’m sure you’re not the only one. Fortunately, I’m also not the only one who groans when reading posts like yours. :p

gah - was going to say that, given that she was born and raised in Malaysia, I’m wondering why anyone would groan about anything…

WW is one of those characters that could be easily used to get the Shojo readership. Oh well…

Good point, but she was born in the Phillipines. :)

With that first name she would probably succeed in Belgium and France. And with that last name she will succed for sure in Spain. Tintin Pantoja, come to Europe!

I’ve been a big fan of Tintin’s ever since I saw her work. She’s a talent to watch.

    Wow.

I like that art style. Nice and clean while still being fluid. It’s obviously manga-influenced but it doesn’t feel derivative.

And I’d be really excited about a comic following the growth of little Diana on Paradise Island. I think a long look at Diana’s childhood might be the very thing to stop making her character always carry the burden of being a little bland, a little bit too much like a cypher.

JK Parkin: Thanks for the link. I’ll check out Pantoja’s other stuff.

Tintin is awesome. I had the honor of meeting her at Mocca this year. Definitely a talented artist! I’d buy this in a heartbeat.

  14. Paploo Says:

I think Tintin’s recently finished up [or is in the process of finishing] an adaption of Hamlet for the Coles Notes people, and is also working on an adaption of Pride and Prejudice for TokyoPop, collaborating with one of their editors [whose handling the adaption...]

I certainly do hope http://sporadicsequential.blogspot.com/2006/12/shjo-ww-watch-breaking-news.html this is more then a rumour….

    To: Matt Brady

Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines are different countries. Besides, I lived in Harlem. You gonna give a Harlem girl some sass, boy?

  16. ubershep Says:

If Tintin would draw a Wonder Woman digest in her general art, and not her over the top manga, then I’d love it. That stuff has style. I’m just sick of people copying another style verbatim (I have the exact same problem with many american artists too, s I’m not playing favorites).

    Tintin is a good girl.

  17. JohnnyZito Says:

A manga digest of Wonder Woman would get me to check it out.

I can’t believe with the Spider Man Loves Mary Jane book doing well that this wasn’t already thought of.

  18. Gerry Alanguilan Says:

Congrats to Tintin! I’m really proud of you! :D

  19. SONICMAN2 Says:

Im not a big fan of manga, but this artowrk looks really good. Hopefully someone picks it up. Would love to read the rest of it!
