This is “Point/Counterpoint in the Blogosphere…” where we take a look at what has YOU talking. Today, I’ll be showcasing two related discussion points about a particular topic, to help you keep up with some of the hot topics in comic fandom.
Today’s topic is the long-awaited third issue of the new Wonder Woman series. The question now is, after months and months of waiting, is it good?
(Warning, the excerpts and linked blogs contain spoilers for Wonder Woman #3)
Amy Reads of Arrogant Self-Reliance enjoyed the issue a lot and she examines why in her post Just Not Feminist Enough: A Brief Review of Wonder Woman #3:
At the end of the issue, it seems that all of This Humble Author’s dreams for this new run have come true. The last panel reveals a change for the Amazon Princess, one I hope will hold true for a few issues, at least. I won’t reveal Too Much, Gentle Reader, because I’ve spoiled the spoilers enough as is. But I think we’re about to see a shift in Agent Prince/Wonder Woman/Princess Diana. I think we’re about to see Diana, and that’s almost Worth Waiting For.
Over at his MySpace page, a reviewer named Ray is much less happy about this recent issue and gives his explanation:
I feel more and more that Wonder Woman is a whipping post for DC Comics. I can’t get the image of her hanging her head in shame and acquiescing to Hercules out of my head. It’s disgusting. That is not Diana, Princess of Themyscira. That is not Diana Prince. That is not Wonder Woman.
The men in the title are written wonderfully. The women are lacking. Donna is incompetent in the Wonder Woman costume. Cassie as Wonder Girl, though I’ve always hated her, is coming off more loathsome than ever. And Diana…well, Diana is now unrecognizable.
What do you think?
