Can't Wait For Wednesday!

There is no other way to open this post than to simply say … HAPPY THANKSGIVING! It’s another great week of comics with my second most favorite holiday to boot! I hope that this week, of all weeks in the year, rewards you with some comics that you simply can’t wait to read. Let’s see what the Blog@ gang are looking forward to this week!

Lisa Fortuner’s Pick Of The Week

I am willing to stop at the comics store on the way to the airport and possibly miss my flight and my Thanksgiving Dinner to get Wonder Woman #3.

Casanova #6

Graeme McMillan’s Pick Of The Week

This won’t help my indie snob reputation any, but this week belongs to Casanova #6 – Matt Fraction and Gabriel Ba’s “dose”/”slimline”/”short book” format series has been much more fun than any comic has any right to be, a perverse and sexy book that plays with the format and pop history depending on whatever the creators’ moods at the time, yet somehow comes out as weirdly consistant and always enjoyable. Yeah, Matt’s also got Punisher War Journal #1 out this week, but even with the Civil War crossover that book has, I doubt that it has the promise of crossdimensional incest and family intrigue.

Michael May’s Pick Of The Week

I never thought I’d hear these words coming out of my keyboard, but I’m really looking forward to Punisher War Zone #1. Between Casanova and the interviews he’s given pimping this and Iron Fist, I’ve developed a humongous crush on Matt Fraction’s words-putting-down-on-papering. If PWJ is half as mad as Casanova, it’ll be the best title Marvel publishes.

Pirates Of Coney Island #2

Kevin Melrose’s Pick of the Week

Pirates of Coney Island #2. I wasn’t completely sold on Rick Spears’ story for Issue 1 — we don’t even meet the title characters — but I fell head over heels for the comic’s tone, and for Vasilis Lolos’ art. It’s so full of energy and attitude. And although I realize this will make me sound really, really geeky, I’ve repeatedly marveled at Lolos’ use of color in that first issue; it’s simply stunning. So I’m looking forward to Issue 2, for the introduction of the titular Pirates, but mostly for more of Lolos’ work.

Chris Hunter’s Pick Of The Week

The Boys #5 – as if you had to ask! Ennis and Robertson doing some of their best work and I’m totally captivated by it. Nuff said!

Planetary Brigade: Origins #1

Tom Bondurant’s Pick Of The Week

My pick this week is Planetary Brigade: Origins #1, another spinoff from Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis, and Joe Abraham’s Hero Squared series. Given the setting of Hero Squared, this one’s set in the past, showing the early days of the JLA-style group to which Captain Valor belonged (and which already has its own series). I’m also looking forward to Wonder Woman #3, Supergirl and the Legion #24, and, yes, Hawkgirl #58. Big week for female headliners, apparently…

You know the drill by now. Go check out what came in today and tell us what your picks are. In the meantime, have a Happy Thanksgiving!!

One thing I’m looking forward to is the Simpsons “Winter Wing-A-Ding”. The Simpsons comics rarely disappoint – the last issue wherein Ned Flanders spoke 150+ cliches was a good example of something funny and true to the characters but that couldn’t fit the TV program’s format.

Please change title to “Can Wait for Wednesday” as this was late again.

My picks more Tim Truman in Conan #34, Ennis delivers as always with The Boys #5, and Uncle Sam and Freedom Fighters #5 which has become a solid action oriented title after a slow start.

I could wait all year before getting excited about Wonder Woman right now. Pretty art but the story seems slow and certainly its release has been. Let’s get through with the redefining the character already.

Hahaha! We’ll get right on that!

A new ‘Y: The Last Man’ trade is an instant winner for me.

Although 100 Girls vol.2 scores high as well, just to see if it actually comes out this time. ;-)
