Can't Wait For Wednesday!

Ever had one of those weeks where things just don’t seem to fall into place like they should? That would be me this week. But I have to tell you, Wednesday seems like it will be the day that changes all of that for me. This week, I’ll be picking up (if they all ship…ahem!) Invincible #36, The Walking Dead #32, Astonishing X-Men #18, Civil War #5, Iron Man #13, New Avengers #25, Squadron Supreme #7, and Leading Man #4. Can ya tell I’m a Marvel guy? Not a single DC book in the mix for me. Just nothing that I want to get from them, especially with offerings like Texas Chainsaw Massacre #1. Uh, I’ll pass. Though the Absolute DC: The New Frontier does is tempting, I must admit…

Enough about all of that! On to the important people and their important opinions!

Lisa Fortuner’s Pick Of The Week

Birds of Prey #100

Looks like a good week for me. I’d normally be most excited about GLC #6, but I’ve been waiting for White Tiger #1 for a while now, I’m really looking forward to Omega Men #2, and Birds of Prey hits 100 this week. My pick, though, is the next chapter of Astro City: The Dark Age.

Tom Bondurant’s Pick Of The Week

Captain America and the Falcon: The Swine winds up Jack Kirby’s mid-’70s return to the character, so I’m excited about that. My pick this week is Aquaman: Sword Of Atlantis #45, the conclusion of Kurt Busiek’s and Butch Guice’s first arc. So far they’ve used the “One Year Later” device to shake up the classic Aquaman setup and reintroduce it with post-apocalyptic trappings. That’s been fun, but this issue would be a good opportunity to answer some big questions. If not, at least the next issue comes out in just two weeks….

Graeme McMillan’s Pick Of The Week

It’s going to be an expensive week for me, if only because Absolute New Frontier is finally coming out. But even without that, there’s Birds of Prey #100 - and I still want to see a Gail-written Black Canary series, please, DC - and a collection of Denise Mina’s first Hellblazer arc on top of my regular purchases (That’d be 52). There’s even Civil War #5, for people who want to see Peter Parker come to his senses and get beaten up for it. But the book that’s gotten me more curious this week is White Tiger #1, and that’s almost entirely down to the way that Tamora Pierce (who writes the series with her husband, Timothy Liebe) has come over in interviews about the book prior to the launch. Will being a nice person who talks sense and doesn’t play company politics enough to not complain when she sees something she doesn’t agree with being published by her publisher (and there’s a run-on sentence) translate into a good comic book? Who knows, but it’s enough to get me to put my money on the counter for the first issue.

JK Parkin’s Pick Of The Week

Astonishing X-Men #18

Astonishing X-Men #18 concludes the Hellfire Club arc and serves as a set-up for Whedon’s last arc on the book. It’s been a fun ride, and I look forward to seeing where we end up.

Michael May’s Pick Of The Week

Birds of Prey #100: I’ve been reading this since #1 and have been thrilled with it, especially since Gail Simone began writing it. This series made me a Black Canary fan, and as Gail said in a recent interview, her run so far has primarily been a Black Canary story. But, since Black Canary’s leaving the team, this very well may be the last BoP issue I buy for a while. Even so, I’m especially looking forward to it to see where Canary’s going from here (aside from the obvious fact that she’ll be in Meltzer’s Justice League of America).

Chris Hunter’s Pick Of The Week

That would definitely be Astonishing X-Men #18, lads. The work that Whedon and Cassaday have done on the series reminds of how groundbreaking Ellis’ and Hitch’s The Authority was oh so long ago. This is the best X-Men series on the shelves and just may be the best ever as far as I’m concerned. Now I’m gonna have to check what Whedon will do with Runaways. Sigh.

So who got the majority of your cash this week? Marvel? DC? Dark Horse? Image? Oni? Your loan shark? Check out the list and come back in one piece to tell us about it.

IM getting a mix of the 2 companies.

Looking forward to getting CivilWar#5! Maybe now that they are all caught up(yeah right! LOL) we can get to the end of this thing and see what hapens!(Is it just me or are they making me feel like I did during Lost last season with the mix of repeats and new episodes ..took forever to get to the end!) Behind that is Aquaman. Was never a nig Aquaman fan, but this remake of him is really good. And of course Astonishing Xmen.

  2. Kat Kan Says:

White Tiger #1 is the one I’m waiting for - can’t get to my shop today, but will in the next day or so. Based on Tamora’s writing - her latest novel for teens, Beka Cooper: Terrier, should be must reading for anyone (not just teens!) who loves fantasy adventure with a terrific procedural mystery mixed in - I’m anticipating a very good read indeed. She knows how to write fighting action, and she creates wonderfully complex characters I’ve come to love (and love to hate).
