Once you get past the goofy headline — “Holy heroics, Batman!” — and the first few paragraphs, this Detroit Free Press article about a new wave of “spiritual superheroes” is actually fairly decent, even if it doesn’t move beyond the “Hey, there are religious comic books” angle.
The story focuses on Steve Sheinkin, creator of The Adventures of Rabbi Harvey, Richard Dominguez, creator of El Gato Negro (“The Black Cat”), and Michael Davis, whose Code is part of a new line of comics starring Christian superheroes set for release by the end of the year.
Davis, who’s better known for his work in the 1990s on titles like DC’s Wasteland and Eclipse’s Tapping the Vein, tells the newspaper, “… eventually, I realized that I was guilty of creating a ton of content, a lot of which had gritty and dark themes. As I get older, I want to create things that are much more positive.”

Don’t some churches object to Harry Potter because the magic done by the characters detracts from the miracles of Jesus? I wonder how they will take this…
