Seven Soldiers: Explained. Once the math gets worked out.

If James Sime’s assistance wasn’t enough, then the Bendis Board also wants to help you understand Seven Soldiers:

“Okay, so I just spent the day re-reading all of the Seven Soldiers issues so far (except Bulleteer #2, which I can’t find), and all the pieces are falling into place. I have, a couple of times in the past, done my best to explain Grant Morrison comics. I am willing to do that now. So, if you have things you are unclear on about the plot or characters of Seven Soldiers (i.e., I won’t answer, ‘I thought Morrison said all the minis would be standalone. WTF.’), ask them here, and I will do my best to answer.”

It starts well:
“What’s a Seven Soldiers?”

“The Seven Soldiers of Victory are a ‘non-team’ of seven superheroes who never meet each other, collected through the machinations of Ed Sargard, current editor of the Manhattan Guardian and former member of the original Newsboy Army. They are intended to defeat the invasion of the Sheeda. The reason they never meet is that Gloriana Tenebrae, queen of the Sheeda, is aware that she is vulnerable to teams of seven members, and as such is disabling them. This way, she is unaware of the Seven Soldiers. The members are Zatanna, Bulleteer, Klarion the Witchboy, Manhattan Guardian, Shining Knight, Frankenstein!, and Mister Miracle.”

“That’s 6. You forgot the Shining Knight.”
