Sorry we’re running a little late this week with CWFW. Wife, kids, school, yadda, yadda, yadda… But it’s an interesting week, nonetheless.
Grant Morrison’s Batman finishes up the “Batman and Son” storyline this week. Dark Horse gives us more Star Wars with Star Wars: Dark Times #1, focusing on a grim and gritty future for the fan-favorite universe. There seems to be a good amount of anticipation for Marvel’s Doctor Strange: The Oath series by Brian K. Vaughan and Joe Casey is at it again with The Avengers with his sequel, Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes II #1. Also from Marvel, Bullet Points #1 by J. Michael Straczynski and Tommy Lee Edward hits shelves and another series I’ve been looking forward (almost overlooked, actually) is Wisdom #1 by Paul Cornell (whom I’ve never read before, but am told is a very good writer) and Trevor Hairsine.
But enough about all of that! Let’s see if any of it even caught the attention of the Blog@Newsarama gang…
Tom Bondurant’s Pick Of The Week
I’m eager to see Batman #658 for its conclusion of “Batman and Son,” and Batman and the Mad Monk #4 looks like another fine offering from Matt Wagner. However, I’m probably looking forward most to Superman #657. The “apocalyptic future that Superman might have caused” sounds a little like “Rock Of Ages” from the Morrison JLA — and apparently this was a JLA storyline from Busiek’s run-that-never-happened. Still, Kurt Busiek and Carlos Pacheco have done right by this book so far, and the issue looks like another winner to me.
John Parkin’s Pick Of The Week
This week I’m looking forward to a couple of follow-ups to first issues that flew in under the radar and blew me away. The first is Ben Towle’s Midnight Sun, which is about a reporter sent to the North Pole after an airship expedition disappears. Second is Dr. Strange #2; if the first issue is any indication, this could be the greatest Dr. Strange story we’ve seen in many years.
Lisa Fortuner’s Pick Of The Week (It’s a long list, so be ready to do a lot of reading…)
Fables #55, Superman #657, and the long-awaited Green Lantern #14 for me.
(Ha! I kid! Just wanted to pick on Lisa a little there.)
Chris Hunter’s Pick Of The Week
Stormwatch PHD #1 - I really liked Christos Gage on the Deadshot miniseries from a few years ago and have been interested in his work ever since then. Teamed with Doug Mahnke on a book like this seems like a perfect fit of creators and I’m really expecting a lot of synergy with this new title. Will it happen? Will I be disappointed? Who knows, but I’m gonna check it out.
What? I gotta spoon feed ya?! You know where the list is at. Go check it out and tell us what’s going to be at the top of your stack to read this week. See ya in seven…

I can’t wait for Batman #658 to see how Grant Morrison wraps it up…

I’d call myself more efficent, since I named three books in one sentence and it took you a whole paragraph for one.

Hahaha! I was just teasing ya, Lisa. I’m nowhere near as efficient as you.

My pick of this week: The conclusion of the Runaways and Young Avengers Civil War adventure in CW: YA&Runaways #4.

Bullet Points #1 by J. Michael Straczynski and Tommy Lee Edward shits shelves
You may want to correct that typo, Chris. Or perhaps Bullet Points really does defecate ledges.

Gah!! Thanks for catching that!

Someone beat me to it. Thanks, guys!

Apparently, this could wait for Wednesday. I can’t believe anyone would pick a comic written by Zeb Wells (CW: Runaways & YA) but to each their own.
I liked Gen 13 #2, Teen Titans#40 (I’m in a real superhero mood this week) and DMZ #13 which begins a new storyline.
