Affleck “inoculated” against ever playing a superhero again

Daredevil

If Marvel does get around to making a Daredevil sequel at some point, it sounds like Ben Affleck won’t be in it. “By playing a superhero in Daredevil, I have inoculated myself from ever playing another superhero,” said Affleck. “Wearing a costume was a source of humiliation for me and something I wouldn’t want to do again soon.”

Cinematical comments:

Interesting. So it was the costume that was humiliating to him? Not the fact that the movie was one of the worst comic book-to-film adaptations ever made? Or, that it was very poorly directed and had an excruciatingly amateurish script? Or, that Affleck’s own performance, putting it delicately, sucked? No, I’m sure its none of those things that he needs to be embarrassed about. Must be the costume. Yeah, whatever.

I’m not sure it qualifies as the worst comic-to-film adaptation, but it might score extra points for spinning off another possible contender for the title in Elektra.

Heh heh heh. If only he’d realize the same thing about his acting.

  2. Wesley Says:

Wait… didn’t he pursue this movie and this role? Wasn’t this movie made because of his interest? I’m having trouble accessing IMDB right now, but I even thought he had a producers credit, and from that quote he sounds like he was blackmailed into playing the part.

So getting into the suit was something he never wants to do again, huh? And BOUNCE is?

  3. Rob Says:

This from the man who made Gigli?

  4. Nick Evans Says:

Bounce and gigi are clearly two good examples of why simply making a bad movie isn’t that embarrassing for Affleck. So if his choice is “bad movie” vs “bad movie & silly, uncomfortable costume”, you can see why he chooses the former.

Didn’t he just wear Superman’s costume in a movie recently? Sure, he wasn’t Superman, but was he humiliated in that movie, too?

  6. Morrison Says:

Hey Affleck - it was a source of humiliation for us too! That had to be the worst superhero movie that didn’t have Halle Berry in it…

  7. Tuckenie Says:

Really he wouldn’t even need to be embarrassed over the movie itself if the Director’s Cut had reached theaters. I actually like that version of the movie.

  8. Joseph Says:

It’s disappointing to hear him say that. I actually liked the movie (especially the Director’s Cut) and thought he did pretty well in it. He has made so many bad movies it’s odd that he would specifically mention this experience as “humiliating”.

  9. Chad Says:

You’d think he might at least have fond memories given that he met his future wife on the set.

  10. Patrick Says:

Yeah, I remember reading that Affleck was a huge Daredevil fan and really went for the part, so this seems like a stupid thing to say.

  11. Jeremy Says:

Am I the only one who didn’t think it was all that bad? Could have been more faithful to the source material, but just because it wasn’t on the level of X-Men/Spidey films doesn’t mean it’s horrible.

  12. Kolimar Says:

What a moron. The costume was actually one of the cool things in the movie.

The movie itself wasn’t too bad (several cool scenes, nice action, humor, romance, etc.) but it had several notorious flaws. It’s not a good movie but it’s pretty decent as a comic book/action movie without pretensions. It’s a popcorn flick.

    I seriously doubt that. :D
