It looks as if plans have been shelved for a Green Lantern movie starring actor/comedian Jack Black.
IESB.net has a clip from its interview with Black in which he claims fan backlash to reinvisioning Green Lantern as a bumbling idiot caused Warner Bros. and DC Comics to pull the plug on the project.
“Somebody wrote a script for me, but I don’t think it’s going to happen,” Black says in the video clip. “Too many people were mad at the idea of me being the Green Lantern. … You know how it goes with comic-book people.”
IESB reviewed the script — written by Robert Smigel — back in August.

““Too many people were mad at the idea of me being the Green Lantern. … You know how it goes with comic-book people.”
Kinda out of character for big, genial goof-ball like Jack Black to come off so dismissive of “comic book people”, especially considering the warm reception he gets every time he shows up at the San Diego Con. I love Black’s films and his overall personality, but at some point, enough’s enough. Hands off GL.

I’d be okay with him as GL if he were willing to do a serious GL film with no wackiness and if he’d get himself in shape.

I like Jack but he’s an idiot if he doesn’t see why we’re upset. I don’t have much of a problem with the idea as long as we get a serious GL movie done first without him as the lead character and Jack doesn’t use any of the serious GL names or their stories. He could do G’Nort or, even better, a completely new GL he could play as a “bumbling idiot” to his heart’s content.

Or he could do the his comedy first and raise interest in the property. But reinvent any of the main GLs as a “bumbling idiot”? That’s a big NO-NO.

“re-envisioning?”

The last thing DC wants to do is ruin a character’s image for decades ala 60’s Batman show… I love Jack Black, but if he wants to do a movie like that, just make it an original character…

“re-envisioning?”
Sounds a lot like Catwoman to me. Stinks like that too. :p

Actually I changed my mind.
G’nort - Yes. Hal Jordan - No.

And anyway, the idea of a fool as a Green Lantern was done much better by Daffy Duck…
