The most powerful man in manga… um… isn’t actually in manga, according to ICv2:

Kurt Hassler, the graphic novel buyer for the Borders Group, is the most powerful person in the American manga publishing industry according to a survey conducted in ICv2′s Retailers Guide to Anime/Manga #16.  To arrive at this list ICv2 interviewed key players from all elements of the industry including the publishers, distributors, and retailers.  We asked our interview subjects to concentrate on the American side of the market and to look for those key figures who had influence not only over the actions of their own companies, but also over others not in their control.

  1. Steve Flack Says:

Wasn’t there a buyer for a major book-chain who was such a manga fan, that he wrote ameri-manga under a fake Japanese name?

    -Steve!

  2. Steve Flack Says:

Actually, I was right. Hassler writes “Sokora Refugees” under the name Segamu for Tokyopop.

So, the most powerful man in manga IS in manga.

    -Steve!
