Over on Comic Bloc, the question is, how much can you namedrop?:
I’m curious to know:
Who are cool people to email with that works in the comics busines? I’ve gotten some emails back and they all rock in comics.
I’ve emailed :
Joe Quesada (he emails me back every now and then)
Judd Winick (see Quesada)
Brad Meltzer (we trade emails, it takes him a few days but it’s always nce to see him respond)
Ed Brubaker (emailed him a few times and gotten a response)
Marv Wolfman ( see Meltzer)
Devin Grayson
Mike Zeck
Allan Heinberg (through Myspace)
Matthew Clark (see Heinberg)
Neal Adams (emailed him but never got a response)
Don Kramer
Ethan Van Sciver
Scott Kolins
Scott Beatty
Rags Morales
Howard Porter
Greg Horn
Alberto Dose
Geoff JohnsI think thats it.
Most people will email you back. I’d recommend (if you want a response back):
Brad
MarvYours?
As you might expect, the rest of the thread is full of people saying “I email [creatorX] all the time and they’re great,” but my favorite responses come from the man who knows Alan Moore:
I live in Northampton. So I see him about the town. At first I was nervous like ‘excuse me are you Alan Moore etc’!!!! But now if we see each other he’ll ask how I am etc and have a chat if he’s got time or were going the same way.
With one post, a reputation ruined.

Oh, the mystique of Alan Moore was gone for me the minute Alan Davis started talking about him.
Oh dear, did I just name-drop?
I hear that sort of thing is frowned upon in some circles.
By the way, I’m sleeping with inker Robin Riggs.

Alan’s mystique went up like a cloud of vapor for me when he told me he loves South Park. Seriously.

I’ve actually worked with a prominent comics creator on a non-comics project. Who? Well, it wouldn’t be a surprise then, would it.

Dwayne McDuffie usually answers his e-mails and has always been friendly in them.

I’ve gotten e-mails from Ed Brubaker, Steven Grant, Robert Kirkman, Colleen Coover, Root Tobin and Erik Larsen.
There may be more, but that’s who I can think of off the top of my head. Kevin Smith ruined my Madman shirt. Does that count?

I’ve gotten e-mails from Graeme McMillan.

I *am* Grame McMillan…

I’ve e-mailed with Phil Jimenez, Mark Waid, Brian Augustyn, and Tom Mandrake, off the top of my head. Only Phil wound up being anything conversational…the others were when I was trying to run a Martian Manhunter fan site. I actually instant messaged with Phil and had the opportunity to tell him that his work had a great impact on me.

I get e-mails from Spider-Man and Jean Grey and Ferro Lad and Captains America, Crunch, Comet, Carrot, and Kirk.

I get emails from Matt Brady. But he denies it.

I’ll have to agree that Brad Meltzer is very good about responding to emails. Any time I email him, he’s very quick about responding back!

Geoff Johns once asked me to draw a portrait of his wife, but the deal didn’t go anywhere. No lie.
