Comic books for the Nintendo DS

October 12th, 2006
Author JK Parkin

I know ever since they started making comic books for the PSP, our own Stephanie Chan has been asking when they’d have them for the Nintendo DS. Today’s your lucky day, Steph:

Comic Book DS, a nifty little homebrew application, allows users to view comics or pictures on their DS. We haven’t given it a whirl yet, but you can check out some impressions from 4cr here. Eric over at 4cr also gives a step-by-step rundown on how you can get your comics onto the DS, as well as navigating them through the application.

Personally, we’re looking forward to scanning some of our Berserk mangas and having at it. Anyone else give the program a whirl?

Very interesting to see what happens with this.

Also, it’s the NINTENDO DS. The Gameboy brand has not been used on this particular machine.

Oh yeah? I guess my PlayStation roots are showing. :)

    Thanks; I’ve updated the story.

Fun comments, considering Nintendo dropped the Gameboy brand to get rid of the kiddie image. This 37-old wasn’t too bothered with it though… What? I read comics too you know… ;)
That said I can’t imagine reading comics on the tiny DS screens being a positive experience. I once tried reading an ebook on my pda with a ~5 inch screen, I got a headache for my trouble and my thumb hurt for days after – maybe I just read too fast…

This is my same problem with trying to read them on the PSP… just doesn’t quite work for me.

Not a HUGE fan of computer comics either, unless they’re strips. There have been a few exceptions, but I would have much rather owned a hard copy.
