Ellis: Bows, arrows and bad words (Censored for this audience).

Author Graeme McMillan

Warren Ellis wants you to read notes on his upcoming Apparat title, Crecy:

My name’s William of Stonham.

This is a story about the English and the French.

Why do the English hate the French?

They eat frogs, they smell bad, and they’re twenty five miles away.

The English swear like troopers. And I AM a trooper. I’m an archer in service to King Edward.

There are more than twelve thousand of us, marching towards Crecy in France. And seven thousand five hundred of that number are archers like me.

Longbowmen.

I’ve entirely excised the part where there’s swearing using the one word that still offends people, thereby giving you a reason to click on the link. Don’t say I never do anything for you.

This is about the origin of “the finger” isn’t it?

No wait, that was at Agincourt. Nevermind.
