In an interstellar burst, I am back to save the universe. Or something.

The pluses of going on vacation: Having some time off. The minuses: The increased probabilities of unusual things happening to you while you’re outside your usual routine. For example: Your hotel going on fire or, as happened to me this weekend, a tooth falling out with no pain and/or blood involved whatsoever. Which is probably an even worse sign of things than if it’d hurt a lot and had a lot of blood.
That said, I’m entirely out of this “comic” loop - the only comic I read while I was away was Becky Cloonan’s East Coast Rising - so give me a couple of days to get back up to speed (and try not to ask the obvious questions. But that said: Dude, doesn’t that Thunderbolts revamp completely give away who wins in Civil War?). But for now, I’ll point you all to Tom Brevoort’s response to the snarky reception the internet at large has given his blog:

I stand behind what I do, so unless you happen to hit one of those oh-so-rare instances where I totally agree with a criticism, you’re going to have to expect me to stand behind my work, and the work of the creators that’s being done under my watch. Doesn’t mean I don’t want to hear the feedback–just doesn’t mean I’m going to roll over and take it. And I’m crazy pressed for time these days, so I tend to post here at this blog and online very, very quickly–one draft, no polishing, no time for second thoughts. And that coupled with the internet’s uncanny ability to make everybody read everything with the worst possible term and in the worst possibel light, means that sometimes I may be coming across harsher than I intend to be.

But I’m not trying to be off-putting. I wouldn’t be pounding away at this column well after close of business if I were. Nobody pays me anything extra to venture out here into cyberspace and dialogue with people. I do it because I want to do it–because, had the internet existed when I was simply a reader rather than an industry insider, I would have been out here posting and communicating all the time. I figure the least I can do is give something back.

Back in the day, when I first discovered the Internets, Tom Brevoort was one of the few editors on line. He was always pretty nice and cordial and looking for feedback.

Thank God Graeme is back and he’s joined my depressed band of Civil War readers sadly pointing out that we cracked Marvel’s “secret code” and figured out who wins the war. Let’s see:

    Mighty Avengers with a Pro-Registration line-up?

    Check.

Millar crowing about his 50 State Initiative?

    Check.

Omega Flight with characters that had a reason to leave the country?

    Check.

    Spider-Man in black?

    Check.

    New Fantastic Four lineup?

    Check.

Thunderbolts consisting of the lineup put together by the Pro-Registration forces during the most cynical comic ever written?

    Double Check.

    So….

How is this supposed to be a surprise again? I mean unless somebody named Donald Blake shows up with a really big hammer to kick some Clor butt…

Thunderbolts #110 is set within the timeframe of Civil War, not after.
