Over on Gutter Zombie, colorist Matt Hollingsworth has started a thread where creators can share rejection letters like this one:

Still cleaning the apartment, and lo’, what do I come across? Old rejection slips, that’s what!!! Hahahahaha! I saved a bunch of them. Funny thing is, I ended up working *with* or *for* many of these folks later on, often at other companies.

While doing some file cleaning the other week, I ran across two or three identical letters to that Marvel one. I had dreams about 15 years ago. I’ve since squashed them all.

I used to have a stack of those back in the day. I always meant to hold onto them and have a bonfire when I “made it”. Alas, I must have chucked them during one move or another over the years.

Ha ha - I have the exact same letter from the subs editor of about three years ago - a lady who left…can’t remember her name for the life of me!

I got a LOT of those myself, not only from Marvel, but from DC, Dark Horse, Image, Fantagraphics, Valiant, etc. etc. My earliest was from 1986, signed by Eliot Brown, the coolest rejection letter I ever got.
