Boondocks strip’s future in question

September 27th, 2006
Author Rich Watson

“It was obvious that Aaron would not be able to meet his original six-month target of returning ‘The Boondocks’ to newspapers… His Sunday strips needed to be in by mid-September to meet newspapers’ deadlines of publishing ‘The Boondocks’ by the end of October. We had to consider the newspapers currently running ‘The Boondocks’ reruns and expecting its return. It was unfair to keep them guessing any longer.”

The story.

My father has heard of Aaron McGruder, and he knows absolutely zippo about comics, so you can imagine the kind of impact a creator like Aaron McGruder has made on the comics landscape. McGruder has been extremely fortunate in that his success has come at so relatively young an age, and with a full season of the animated series under his belt, he’s in a position where he can call the shots as he likes. If he doesn’t want to return to the newspapers at this point in time, I’d say he’s earned the right, though I hope we get to see him in other, different projects as well. A new animated series, perhaps, say, at BET?

BET? You’ve neverseen or watched the Boondocks have you. McGruder dispises BET.

Yay! Another idiot that couldn’t recognize a great strip if it ran up and beat him about the head and shoulders! Boondocks is one of the best strips out there right now, and here’s hoping it keeps going.

Yes, McGruder has never been a fan of BET, but things have changed there lately. You might not have heard that they’re starting an animation division, and Denys Cowan, who has worked with McGruder before, is in charge of it. I like to think that he (and possibly Reggie Hudlin as well) could convince McGruder to work with them on a new series. Maybe it won’t happen, but certainly the possibility exists.

Kyle, McGruder’s feelings for BET may have changed. BET’s predient of entertainment is now Reginald Hudlin, who co-Executive Produced the animated Boondocks series with McGruder.

    Heh… synchronicity, eh Rich?

  7. Kevin Huxford Says:

Wow…a lot of people guessing here. Hudlin is on the credits for Boondocks because he legally made sure that his name was left on it. According to MacGruder, Hudlin was just involved with trying to get it up and running at one point but had no real involvement with the show. There seemed to be some bitterness left from that happening, so Hudlin being with BET is likely NOT going to help bring him around…

The Boondocks is a great show, both it is a funny show and also you can learn something you might not have known. This man is a genious.

This is a extremely funny and unique show. Some issues are brought up because people see things only from their point of view instead of opening their eyes to different ways of viewing things. This show is a comedic show only shown to entertain us, not to cause controvesial problems. Keep it Aaron. I had to comment again. Fight the Power!!!!
