16-inches of Wonder and Steel

The Tonner Doll Company, makers of oversized, high end fashion dolls, announced plans to released action figure/doll hybrids called Character Figures. The new toy line will kick off with the debut of Wonder Woman and Supergirl this fall.

The Tonner Character Figures are 16 inches tall and feature full articulation (neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, side-to-side drop shoulder movement, rotational hip joints, and knees). Some will also include twist waist and/or ankle joints. The faces are hand-painted, and the clothing is highly detailed in miniature (for example, Supergirl/Wonder Woman’s boots have zipper closures).

Interestingly enough, the press release mentions the Character Figures will come with alternate outfits reflecting the character’s secret identities and origins. Wonder Woman will come with an amazonian schiffon, greco-style gown with knee-high lace boots as well as a Diana Prince (!) outfit. Supergirl is more interesting as she comes with a casual outfit (perhaps a Linda Lee one since Wondy was a throwback to the past?) and a Silver Kryptonian costume (I have no idea if that was from any comics. If so, can someone fill me in?).

Suggested retail price is approximately $109 USD per figure.

In 2007, expect to see the boys jump in like a slightly taller 17.5 inches tall Batman and Superman as well as villains. Eight Character Figures are scheduled to be released by the end of 2007.

(Thanks, Stanley!)

Wonder Woman could eat a few sandwiches.

Can’t they make them any skinnier? You know, like thin enough that their legs snap if you stand them up?

I mean, that’s how you sell girl superheroes these days.

On a less snarky note, it’s interesting that they went with the 90′s Supergirl costume, rather than the current one, or the original. I suppse because it’s similar to the movie one. Anyway, good call I guess.

Haha! Don’t be silly. Dolls aren’t really made for children anymore. Certainly not ones sold for $109 and only available at specialty stores.
