Comic Relief, Rory Root’s amazing store in Berkeley, is hosting Derek McCulloch and Shepherd Hendrix, the creators of new Image Comics graphic novel Stagger Lee on Saturday, September 30th, between 7 and 9pm. Never heard of Stagger Lee? Luckily, the Library Journal has reviewed it to give you an idea of what to expect, as the creators noticed:
[W]e’ve been honoured with a starred review in the current issue of The Library Journal. At least, I assume the star is an honour. I didn’t see a footnote at the bottom saying “Avoid at All Costs.” Ordinarily, I’d link to the review, but it’s subscriber only. Seek it out on your own by all means. In the meantime, here are a few pull quotes:“(An) outstanding and well-researched historical fiction”
“Masterful”
“Insightful commentary”
“Convincing, multifaceted characters”
“Hendrix’s sepia-toned artwork is effectively realistic”
“Strongly recommended.”

The star in Library Journal is indeed a very good thing. Very few books reviewed here receive stars. BTW, the book is excellent.
