The Palm Beach Post has a Q&A with local author Brad Meltzer, who discusses his latest novel, The Book of Fate, and his comic-book work:

They offered me a chance to do a comic book. And I thought it was a way of stretching my muscles. If my goal was to break away from novels and do Hollywood, I should have pitched a TV show this year. Instead, I did Justice League of America because that’s the itch I wanted to scratch.

It’s always been about having the most fun I can have. I worked three years on this book, and I could double my salary if I did a book a year, but they’d be garbage. I’ve always been of the belief that you write the best book you can and put it out there. If someone is going to pay their money for a book, they should be able to say, “That is the best book I’ve read in a long time. It’s a great thriller.” If they can’t say that, I shouldn’t do it.

He also answers the age-old question, “What’s the difference between a graphic novel and a comic book?”

Snobbery,” Meltzer says. “That’s all. ‘Graphic novel’ is a term invented to impress people who wouldn’t be impressed if you said ‘comic books.’

Wow. That’s not the difference at all.

And two–if you follow the link, you can read Meltzer take credit for a Spider-Man, 9/11 thing he lifted directly from Entertainment Weekly.
