Internet reaction to image from company formerly known as Atlas: Shrugged.

So, All The Rage shows this image:

…and the internet doesn’t really notice, apart from Millarworld:

“I’m done commenting until I actually get to read the book where something happens. I feel like I’m being jerked around and I’m not going to waste time discussing things that aren’t true. That said, it looks like it could be from Spider-Man: Reign.”

“I’m pretty sure that is from the Reign. it has almost the same exact linework and color. Besides that, I find it hard to believe Marvel would be dumb enough to kill Mary Jane…again.”

“Yeah, pretty sure that’s from Reign, Spidey’s answer to Dark Knight Returns.”

“Honestly, I think the only reason Quesada wants to get rid of Mary Jane is so Spider-Man can go sleep with the Black Cat.”

I’m sure that’s not the reaction that Marvel was hoping for.

  1. Mike Nicolai Says:

If killing Mary Jane means Spidey gets his old costume back, I’m all for it.

  2. Scott King Says:

They keep pulling stunts after stunts with Peter Parker’s life. I think a lot of people are just growing numb to it. The shock-value of stuff like this is going away.

  3. JD Says:

Meh, Personly think they should leave spiderman alone for a year or 18 months, give hime some spider-Foe’s to kick around and try and get him back to his roots.

Big sweeping story arcs are ok but they seem to follow each other so quickly that it seems kinda rushed.

In the past 18 months there have been House of M, The Other and now Cival War, come on Marvel give the guy a break.

  4. Kyle Cowstar Says:

Yep, everyone will just say “stupid” if Marvel kills Mary Jane in continuity.

  5. Mostskillz Says:

Dang, enough is enough. What more are they going to do to ol’ Spidey??!

  6. Billy Ray Says:

Don’t worry; after a coupl’a years it’ll turn out that the dead Mary Jane is a Skrull/clone/Maddox duplicate in drag…

It’s not about change, it’s about the illusion of change.

    Spurge’s premonition comes to pass:

    FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN #14
    Written by PETER DAVID
Pencils and Cover by SCOT EATON
It’s the return of Peter Parker’s old flame, Deb Whitman! Unfortunately for Peter, she’s written a tell-all memoir about her relationship with him, entitled “How Spider-Man Ruined My Life.” Ouch! As if that weren’t bad enough, the Vulture has been set loose from prison to scavenge for Spider-Man, but who’s behind his release and what nefarious scheme do they have up their sleeve?

  8. Steve J. Says:

I suggest taking JD’s idea and going one step further: let Stan Lee write Amazing Spider-Man for 18 months with no Quesada interference, then go from there.

  9. JD Says:

Steve J that is a fantastic idea.

  10. Kevin Sole Says:

That doesn’t at all look like Kaare’s work.

It does, however, fit Scott Kolin’s pencils perfectly.

  11. David Blackshore Says:

Graeme, how long have you been wanting to use that heading? Were you saving it for a story related to Steve Ditko?

  12. Mister Fanboy Says:

If this is to really happen, and if we are to believe Joe Q.’s earlier comments that he wouldn’t kill her … My guess is that it will all flow out of Civil War. Now that everyone knows who he is, the dangers to his family are too much to bear and she has to fake her own death. Or maybe it’s a clone. Not sure. :)

  13. Graeme McMillan Says:

Beta Ray, I think your anger therapy class called. They’re concerned that you’ve accidentally been attending Shakespeare class instead.

    (“Wench”?)

David – The headline just came to me, like a bolt from the puntastic blue.

    I’d say it’s from Kaare Andrews ‘Reign’…

  15. Yam Says:

I love Kaare, and I don’t mean to offend anyone, but when I saw that I thought it looked amateurish. Especially in the coloring.

  16. Tim O'Shea Says:

And yet, with Ditko’s appreciation of Rand that would be an even funnier (though I enjoyed this one).

Pst-Petey–have you hugged your Uncle Ben gravestone today? More importantly, I can think of two times a fake Aunt May headstone was made. Did tight-budgeted Parker hold on to one of them for future use?

  17. Mike Nicolai Says:

If Aunt May dies, can Mary Worth be his new aunt?
