Mahrwood Press has announced a new charity anthology:

“Balm in Gilead” will be a prestige anthology featuring the top names in comics and genre literature. All proceeds go directly toward feeding, clothing and housing children [affected by the bombing in northern Israel].

The line up of creators includes Stan Lee, William Messner-Loebs, Peter David, Joe Kubert, Neal Adams, Colleen Doran and many more.

Anyone planning anything for the children of Lebanon?

Now if someone were willing to do something about the children in southern Lebanon …
These things are always difficult in that they’re a good thing in themselves, yet in total support the less needy side. I don’t know, just doesn’t sit right with me.

  3. Rchilton Says:

eep. can’t the millions of daily aid to israel from the U.S. help these kids out, too?

  4. Kat Kan Says:

Mahrwood is an Israeli-American publisher, so its focus is natural.

Yes, but … having mulled it over a bit more:
If the focus was on children (that is, innocents) it really doesn’t and shouldn’t matter which side of the border they live on. Coopertions with a Lebanese organisation or if all else fails the Red Cross/Crescent would be the way to go if the purpose was to help children.
That is no happening. The organisation that gets the funds is a regular Jewish charity, focussed on economic help to the region, not victims of war in particular.
That makes it still a good thing, but as it’s very clearly taking sides and using children to do it it is something I do not find worthy of support.

This isn’t taking any sides. What an ignorant statement! When a charity collects money for a particular disaster, that’s not an insult to the needy in other places…I checked out the charity and they give aid to children from ALL religions (Haifa is famous for having Christians, Jews and Muslims living together).
