Will no-one think of the children?

August 18th, 2006

Those Civil War delays don’t just affect Marvel, you know; it’s something that James Sime has considered:

[W]hile the industry is in an uproar about this latest outrage your friends at the Isotope have been thinking about what a great and unique opportunity this presents for independent comic creators and publishers. Because surely Wizard Magazine and industry news sites that get a majority of their content from Marvel Comics have also come to the conclusion that a six-week delay in the comics also means a six-week delay in those spoiler-laden articles about the twists and turns of the Civil War storyline.

And if Wizard isn’t running those articles next month… they’re going to need to run something else, aren’t they? After all, you can’t have a magazine without content, can you? So we’re encouraging all our indy comic creating and publishing friends to contact Wizard and those industry news sites and take this unique opportunity to get their books some press!

If one of the side-effects of CW missing two months is that Wizard becomes an indie-haven, that’ll be silver lining enough for me, thanks…

That would make for a wonderful issue of Wizard.

All kidding aside, isn’t this whole thing getting blow just a little out of proportion?

Hey, if it gets me an all Palmer’s Picks issue of Wizard, then blow away…

Seriously, does anyone remember that column? It was sweet, and just what I needed at age 16 or whatever. And the end of the column dovetailed nicely with the end of my regular purchasing of Wizard. Intriguing.

Yeah, it ended when Palmer took a job at TOYFARE. I think WIZARD really started to slide when they started up that mag.

“I think I read Wizard for about 3 issues before I quit; even ten years ago I knew better. Remember those awful drawing guides by Bart Sears?!”

Oh God! “Brutes and Babes!” How to draw obnoxious, grotesque musculatures and contorted faces. Seriously kids, when looking for drawing guides? Less Hogarth, more Loomis…

  6. Chris Says:

Not having any real content has never stopped Wizard from publishing before, why should that change now.

    They’ve done okay so far…
