Millar on Wanted: Excitement, football, bigotry.

Mark Millar talks about the progress of the Wanted movie, in light of today’s casting announcement:

I’ve got much more control on the other Hollywood stuff I’ve set up, but we sold Wanted over two years ago and it was the first dip into that water. This was before I was at CAA, etc, and I really didn’t know what I was doing. But it seems to be looking OK so far. They sent me the script about a year ago, but I only read the first few pages for the same reason I never read a book after I’ve written it (hate seeing other people using characters I’ve grown to love). The guy doing the rewrite sounds good and I hear great things about the director. So fingers crossed. I like the look of this guy, though, and he was really good in Narnia.

In a name-dropping moment that’s probably amusing to people from Scotland, Mark then updates on his feelings about the casting:

My chum Muriel Gray just emailed me to say that this isn’t just PRETTY good news, this is GREAT news as [James] McAvoy is the hottest talent in the UK at the moment. He’s really tipped for the top so this is all starting to look very good indeed.

Great director, great lead, big producer… SURELY this can’t suck, right?

Later, he updates - in an all-new thread called “Yes! Westly’s not only from Glasgow and a Catholic” - again, this time about the, um, “important” things:

But I just looked him up and found out he’s a CELTIC FAN.

This just gets better and better.

The idea of a Hun starring in my little 90 million dollar picture really had me worried. Pathetically, it was the first thing I thought when I’d heard they cast a Glasgow actor. So more good news.

If you’re wondering what Millar’s on about, this may provide some context (”Hun” refers to, depending on what definition you pick, a protestant and/or a Rangers FC fan).
