Update on Matthew Clark

Derrik Quenzer, who started blogging about comics for the Oregonian in Portland, Ore. earlier this summer, recently spoke with Outsiders artist/Portland resident Matthew Clark about the heart attack he suffered in May:

OregonLive: How are you doing?
Matthew Clark: Doing pretty good, had a few weeks of light duty and lots of reading up on Diabetes and Myocardial infarction’s. Dry medical text. So I’m recovering nicely.

OL: What happened?
MC: I had a Myocardial infarction caused by late adult onset diabetes.

I was rushed to Legacy Emanuel Hospital which happened to be up the street from a friend’s home in an ambulance. I was admitted into the emergency room and a blood test was performed.

The ER doctors were a little surprised with the test results since I have no family history of Heart Disease or Diabetes. After running the tests over the next 16 hours, I was admitted to the hospital. They told me I was going to have a Cardio angiogram. Once the catheter was inserted and they discovered the blockage, the doctor preformed an Angioplasty, placing two stents into my artery. One artery was 95% blocked.

Clark is drawing about half an issue a month now and hopes to be back up to full speed soon. He was at the home of Greg Rucka when he was rushed to the hospital for chest pains at the end of May.

Christ, I feel almost ashamed for not having commented here. Have always liked Clark’s work, have never liked heart attacks. Here’s hoping he’s back to full health soon.

Now on the flippant side, how many fanboys wish they could say, so I had an ambulance pick me up while I was at Greg Rucka’s house.

Seriously though, glad to hear Clark’s on the mend.
