Several big first issues come out this week. First, we have Rex Mundi, the former Image title, making its Dark Horse debut. At DC, The Boys are back in town, as Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson team together to show us who watches the Watchmen (or the WildCATS, actually). Deadman goes Vertigo this week, while Image drops Phonogram and Marvel bares its Claws.
And those are just the first issues … also this week, Mike Mignola writes Conan, Runaways grieve their fallen teammate, Manhunter ends (for now) and the second Wasteland no doubt follows in the awesome footsteps of its first issue.
Speaking of awesome, let’s hear from my fellow bloggers …
Lisa Fortuner’s Pick of the Week
Well, of course I’ll be getting the two Green Lantern titles, Green Lantern Corps (I really, really hope that Soranik is still alive) and Ion. Checkmate’s starting to get interesting, so I have to pick that up, and I wouldn’t miss Manhunter for anything.
Tom Bondurant’s Pick of the Week
Does this mean I have to choose between one of the nine different cover variants for Avatar’s Lady Death Fetishes 2006? Oh, the emotional turmoil of this task!
I’m going with Nextwave #7, which should be another good cocktail of adrenaline and ironic detachment. I’m also interested in seeing the Justice Society Vol. 1 paperback, which reprints the first issues of the 1970s All-Star Comics revival that (among other things) introduced Power Girl.
Chris Hunter’s Pick Of The Week
Well, to be honest, it was going to be Nextwave #7 until I saw that this week was the debut of Boys #1 from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Boys is the kind of book I’ve been waiting for and I have no doubt that Ennis will deliver much pain to the superheroes of the Wildstorm universe. Teamed with Robertson, this is a classic in the making, along the lines of Preacher and Transmetropolitan.
Stephanie Chan’s Pick of the Week
I’m so torn this week! *sobs* So I’ll pick three books. There is Garth Ennis’ return in Boys #1, a new series from Wildstorm, Streetfighter Legends: Sakura #1, which appeases my video gaming obsession, and my current favorite title is out with Nextwave, Agents of H.A.T.E. #7.
JK Parkin’s Pick of the Week
My pick is Manhunter #25, which the DC Comics website lists as being the final issue. As fans of this excellent series already know, it was given a reprieve earlier this summer and will return for a five-issue arc next year. I only jumped on the Manhunter bandwagon last Saturday, buying the first trade paperback at the urging of one of my fellow B@N’ers. I went back on Sunday to buy all the back issues I could find, so now I’m up to date and eager to read this week’s issue.
What are you looking forward to this week? Check out the Diamond shipping list and let us know!

I can’t believe no one mentioned Fell!

No-one mentioned X-Men, Civil War 3@. That’s the one I’m mostly looking forward to. How are the 198-ers with Domino gonna respond to the hunt-down they’ll get from former X-Men Bishop and his ‘friends’ Sabra and Micromax. How are the originals gonna stop the 198 and what the hell were those freaky looking Sentinels?

There was no Fell to mention. It got bumped again.

Nobbels Pick of the Week:
Civil War: X-Men #2.
What are Cyclops, Archangel, Beast and Iceman going to do about the betrayer Bishop. He and fornmer X-Men assosiate Sabra acompanied by Micromax are going to hunt down ‘The 198′, who just escaped from the Xavier Institute with the help of former X-Force-members Domino and Shatterstar.
Now, Emma Frost is the only X-Man left at the Institute and some brand new Sentinels are pupping up!

FELL is due out next week. I reviewed it in Pipeline today. ( http://pipeline.comicbookresources.com )
And, yes, it’s another great issue.

Most anticipated 1st issue (man, there are a lot this week): Without a doubt, BOYS #1. To me, Preacher is probably my all-time favorite series, and with Garth promising to surpass that - just the one-line pitch already does that - I’m on board.
Most consistant title - TRUE STORY, SWEAR TO GOD - #17 is out this week, and it continues to be among my favorite titles. Never a bad issue.
Most anticipated issue - ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR #32 and 52 #15 (tie) - I know, I know. I’m the mainstream’s b***h. Millar can really end a run on a great note (see Swamp Thing, Chosen, Wanted, Ultimate X-Men, ummm… too many more to name) and what he’s done with UFF so far has been awesome. 52, meanwhile, has been a great journey. It’s like a good road trip - just get in the car, crank the tunes, and just go for the ride. Not sure where it’s going, but the cover looks promising (not in a “good, ********* is dead” way, but good in a story way.)

Manhunter is not the last issue. Dan Didio has given it a reprieve until #30.
