Jude Law

Rumor has it that Jude Law is in talks to play Zod in the Superman Returns sequel:

Well, according to Star Pulse, a tipster told The Daily Express that Singer does indeed plan on using General Zod as his main villain in the sequel. Not only that but, apparently, he’s looking to throw Jude Law into the role. (Originally, Terence Stamp played a wicked General Zod in Superman 2.) Says the tipster, “Some say they should use an unknown but the director Bryan Singer is looking at Jude. The similarities between him and Stamp are clear.”

I can see it… sounds great

  2. Lex Says:

Casting rumors this early usually don’t pan out.

The part that interested me is the possibility of Zod being the villain. If that’s true, then we might get a really awesome Superman fight like what was seen in the last Matrix movie.

  3. tiger47 Says:

What’s the point of making new Superman films if they’re going to be exactly the same as the originals? Is he going to use a cellophane S too?

  4. avery Says:

Can’t have a Superman sequel conversation without someone bringing up the dreaded plastic S.

  5. Kevin Huxford Says:

I’m torn. Jude Law could be a great Zod. I agree that he is the perfect replacement of Terrence Stamp. But I, also, think that it is ridiculous that Singer appears to be truly remaking Superman I & II. C’mon. But if he does this one in a truly kickass action way, everyone will change their tune.

  6. blankpoint Says:

But… why not just use Terence Stamp?

  7. Rod Says:

What ticks me off? Bizzaro, Mxyzptlk, and Parasite have not been done yet…will they ever appear? A movie where they ALL appear with Luthor would be ideal…

  8. cncoyle Says:

Remember in Superman II where Lois was spelling out words of her article? I think she’d say that Singer using Zod would be capital-I little-d little-i little-o little-c little-y exclamation point.

  9. Ace Says:

What a waste of the property to just use Zod again. It’s like they’re making movies about the Superman movies, not about Superman.

Hell, it’s not even my Superman anyway. My Superman doesn’t pretend to be Clark Kent. He IS Clark Kent.

  10. Matt M. Says:

Too young, too pretty to play a convincing Zod. I make no apologies for being oldschool. Terrence Stamp FTW.

  11. R. Nav Says:

Uh… I’m sorry. But if Brian Singer is just going to remake Superman 2 I’m just not interested. I loved Superman 1 and 2, and so did Brian Singer.. I get it. I totally get it. But I’d rather see the franchise move towards the future instead of romancing the past.

  12. Rev. O.J. Flow Says:

Superman 2.0: The Wrath of Zod, anyone? :)

  13. Omar Says:

ugghh, use someone new please. We have all already seen Superman II.

  14. Bert Duckwall Says:

The real question is will they make Jude out to be a GAY character. I have always questioned his sexual preference when I saw this guy wearing scarves around his neck. Maybe they can make him out to be a totally new character called the Switchhitter.

  15. drcool976 Says:

    Singer is a hack.

  16. Theo Says:

Do a Google search, people - Law as Zod is an old rumor about SUPERMAN RETURNS that just got recycled for its sequel.
Rumor was, at the time, that Law turned down the part, so Singer wrote the Zod character out of the script — which, after looking at the finished product, was also a false rumor.

  17. samfish Says:

Oh come on…not Zod. Use someone new…Brainiac or Darksied or even Mxyzptlk would be better than Zod.

  18. IttoDaigoro Says:

Does Brian Singer just cast male actors for roles on the basis of whether or not he thinks they’re hot? I found Brandon Routh to be rather dull in Superman Returns, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Jude Law performance that impressed me. And that guy who played Cyclops sure was handsome; too bad he couldn’t act.

And yeah, stop remaking the original Superman movies and tell some NEW stories onscreen.

  19. Guy LeCharles Gonzalez Says:

Has a sequel even been confirmed yet? The first one is just about dead and looks like it won’t meet the $200m (domestic) that was rumored to be the goal to greenlight a sequel.

I think the better sequel rumor is which director will replace Singer…

  20. Hugo Says:

IttoDaigoro: What, because he’s gay, you immediately assume that he’s picking up actors because he finds them hot? Well, I for one, don’t even find any of them atractive.

  21. IttoDaigoro Says:

“IttoDaigoro: What, because he’s gay, you immediately assume that he’s picking up actors because he finds them hot? Well, I for one, don’t even find any of them atractive.”

Yes, I do. And the idea that Jude Law, Brandon Routh, or What’s His Name (who played Cyclops) aren’t attractive is nonsense. I bet every single one of them is better looking than you (or 99% of the men here).

And I’m gay, BTW, so don’t lecture me about assumptions and such; gay filmmakers are just as susceptible to stupid casting decisions based on physicality (rather than ability) as straight filmmakers.

  22. Theo Says:

Sure, Brandon Routh is no Christopher Reeve, but that’s an impossible standard to live up to. He did just fine, and nailed that final scene with Jr..
Forget what just gay men think - every girl I know was salivating over Routh, too.

  23. Marcus Says:

Awww…come on! Zod has been done PERFECTLY in the past. Law ain´t got no chance in hell to get even close to that other guy.

Superman Returns was sub-par for obvious reasons, why is Singer refusing to learn from his mistakes?

  24. Drcoo976 Says:

Ha ha! IttoDaigoro slays. Anyway, I don’t care what Singer’s sexual preference is. He sucks. Although this most likely won’t happen and is just another unsubstantiated rumor. DC really needs to push for more input with their properties.

  25. DocBrass Says:

like Zod is a big-time villian to deserve another movie appearance. where is Doomsday? or maybe a Braniac-type villian?

  26. Mike Says:

God, why Zod? Why not Brainiac or Bizarro or Metallo? Now that they’ve finally done Lex Luthor to death they want to use Zod AGAIN? Why can’t we move past the first two Superman movies and try someone new as a villain? I want Brainiac already! At least bring in a worthy Superman baddy. Zod’s story is done already.

  27. Mike Says:

Oh wait, Singer is gay? I was wondering. He seemed a little old not to have a wife. LOL what the hell am I talkin about? It’s funny how little things like that mean something to me, like I know the guy or something just cause I like his movie.

  28. Juan Oskar Says:

To have a successful Superman Returns II, you don’t need a big expensive name villan. As a Superman fan over 50…YIKES!!!I feel that you need a good story and some intrigue. And some where in the movie Superman has to recognize/show honor to our men and women in uniform. Maybe a simple salute to the American Flag, or maybe before Superman goes to battle against Zod, Lex, etc. he does a fly over at Normandy. Do you realized how many veterans, families of soilders and veterans would see the movie multiple times just to see a five second scene like that?

    Peace amigos………

  29. Ted Shaw Says:

I’ll admit, he definitly looks the part of Zod. However, considering how campy Superman Returns was, I would much rather see either brainiac, bizarro, heck nearly any other Supes villan other than Luthor. And I dont mean the horrible showing Lex has gotten in the movies, yes even in the original Superman movies, Luthor was a joke and thats what ruined Superman Returns for. Well that and the whole “Superbaby” crap. Either way, if Zod returns, im not seeing it

  30. Bo Says:

Zod again.,hmm. Not really who i wanted to see. Now a Superman- Zod fight now with today’s special effects would be awesome, but why repeat it. Now if maybe it was Zod and Brainiac team up, that would be great.
I know WB has been trying to get Jude Law to be in a superhero film going all the way back to Batman vs Superman. It doesn’t surprise me that they would want Law. I wish we would get new villians that haven’t been used such as Brainiac, Bizarro, Parasite, Metallo, Mr. Mytzipltx, Mongul, Darkseid, or even Toyman and Prankster ( hey if we had to have some new villians!)
    Bo

  31. Bry Kotyk Says:

While Zod certainly wouldn’t be my first choice (c’mooonnn Brainiac!), I can kind of see Jude Law in the role, and I have no doubt Bryan Singer could make it all work. Superman Returns was an absolute joy to watch, so you can sign me up for any Singer-helmed follow-up.

Honestly, not disputing how perfect Christopher Reeve was in the role, but I felt that SR blew the original movies out of the water. I only hope it’ll still be in IMAX in a few weeks’ time…

  32. NeoXorn Says:

I want Darkseid, Doomsday and Metallo!

  33. Andrew Wickliffe Says:

Wasn’t the deal that Singer wanted Law as Zod in Superman Returns and Law said no, so Singer dropped the character?

And the producer, Chris Lee (?), said the video game would reveal villains for a sequel.

  34. keith mccrackan Says:

All this speculation about “remaking Superman 2″ is just that. Just because a movie may (or may not) have Zod in it does not mean that he will be the sole protagonist. Singer himself says it would perhaps have some kind of space invasion element, that could mean anyone from Brainiac to My Favourite Martion, for Zod’s sake!

Personally, I thought the first X-Men movie seemed like a tv pilot, the 2nd was much better (don’t get me started on the third), and hopefully Supes 2 will continue this trend.

Jude Law, Brandon Routh, and whatever that Cyclops dudes name is are all fine actors in this popcorn theatre hell we are all trapped in. Whaddya want, some much lauded thespian that will lower themselves to deign to appear for a massively inflated fee?

P.S. Apparently the new Donner version of Superman 2 will explain why Kal used the crappy gladwrap ‘S’.

  35. Refuge5 Says:

I’d like to see Superman Returns 2 go a different direction that Superman 2… Zod could work in great but I’d love to Brainiac, Metallo, Parasite, or even Doomsday!

  36. Hollie Crawford Says:

I think that getting jude law to play zod would be cool will he have the other two super villains beside him in the superman returns sequel.

  37. FrischDVH Says:

What about Jude as Brainiac then? It wouldn’t be totally off. Although I’d prefer to see Christopher Walken do it.

  38. Terry Says:

IN defense of Singer (regarding his gay bias) he cast Kate Bosworth as Lois…. a young pretty face cast as an older, feisty reporter. At least Routh did a decent job…

  39. redcaped Says:

Find some other actor…too young. People hate Zod but I love this idea.

Dont get me wrong I love zod but leave him dead or redo movie and let him escape from the Phantom Zone. BRANIAC PLEASE OR both!!!
