Our buddy Tim Leong over at the Comic Foundry offers up his biggest video blog ever, in which he reviews a copy of Wizard:
“In this episode I’m talking about Wizard Magazine. Hardly an interesting subject, I know, but as I was flipping through the latest issue I noticed a few things that made me cringe, made me think and made me want to throw up. Watch and I’ll let you figure out which.”
One of the articles he takes to task is this one, on the Mighty Avengers title announced in San Diego. The link doesn’t contain the full article, just a teaser from what actually appeared in the magazine, but it does include the worst opening ever in comics journalism and possibly the entire history of journalism, for that matter.

“Cho says he adds one very important ingredient to the legacy of the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes: ‘Boobs.’”
Wow. I like Cho’s work, actually. His comments, like this one, I think are meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but Wizard has an ability to not only make it sound like he’s serious but creepy, to boot.

Did I miss something? Is George Perez now known for his Twiggy-esque female characters?

The lede may be bad — esp the KITTEN PART — but it is better than sitting down or catching up with someone.

“Whoever the guy was, he’ll be kicking himself in the afterlife now that he’s missing the upcoming Mighty Avengers title from Marvel announced at Comic-Con International in San Diego today”
Ummm…is this guy fucking kidding me? Nobody reads an interview for the lede/intro, this is just appalling. It’s actually worse than “so bad, it’s funny”. What the hell was going on through the interviewer’s head (and his editor’s for that matter) that he thought this would be clever or entertaining.
I’ve never read it, personally, but is this what Wizard is like?

Gabe,
You’re assuming that the people who write for Wizard Magazine actually have things going through their heads?! You assume far too much, my friend.
Also, I envy you for not ever having read Wizard; I wish I could make the same statement.

The writer/editor HAD to be going for shock value. They had to be. Otherwise, that’s one of the most idiotic, repugnant thing I’ve ever read. And it’s from a comics publication. Wonderful.
