Exactly what stories can't they tell? I've never heard Quesada tell that. Only stories about dating, I guess. They've done the storyline about Spidey dating the Black Cat oh about 20 years ago, so that's not exactly new. I can't think of anything else they can't do.

Yea, it's just not a proper Spider-Man story if there isn't a Gwen Stacy to kill off!

Damn, are they going to bring Gwen Stacy in there as well? No Spidey romance is complete without some Gwen sprinkled in!

This "oh yeah, you can't tell as many stories with him unmasked" thing? yeah, its bull. What stories can't you tell exactly? The exact same stories that we've been telling for the past 30 years. If anything, the unmasking opens up the door for many MORE, NEW stories.

idea for end of marriage: some magical/cosmic entity comes to MJ & tells her that peter is destined to die & the only way to save him is to become a Spectre/dr fate (magical keeper of order or something), but if she becomes that everybody will have to forget about her ever existing. so she sacrifices her life with him for his life

Hasn't the latest talk at Marvel concerning Doc Strange been all about how they don't want him to be Marvel's Deus Ex Machina plot device anymore?

They're putting him on a superteam, giving him a new mini(Which I'm very excited about, by the by), but this idea just seems like a reverse in direction before they've even changed anything.

I care very little for Spider-Man(Excepting his rogue's gallery), but don't mess with the Doctor.

I can see the advantages to having Spider-man back closer to the original vision and the movie version. Young, struggling hero is what he is. Marriage is something that can work only for certian superheroes, like the patriarchal Superman, but I agree that Peter makes more sense single. And since Marvel is going to HAVE to do something about Spidey's identity crisis they might as well do a fix on his marriage too. I don't think they should have certain villains remember the "time before" though. Too convoluted. Make a fresh start tabula rasa.

I think that something like this is already being set up with the "get out of jail free" token Loki gave Spidey in ASM #504. Have they dealt with that yet? I don't keep up with the title regularly.

When I first brought up the Dr. Strange angle (on the CBR forums and the old Comics Should Be Good site) I was joking, and I even admitted to adapting it from an unused Superman proposal. I find it rather amusing how it's been picked up and run with in the manner it has.

It would've been great if everyone else had had the same response to Peter's revelation as Deb Whitman did:
(not a real quotation, but close)
"oh, hahaha, thank you Peter. You look ridiculous. You have made me realize that you could not be Spider-man and therefore I am not a nutjob."
"er... yes, yes, you are a nutjob, Deb."

I still say Martha Connors is the only gal for Websy.

You know, I thought the time is ripe for Debra to make her return in some capacity or another. Peter needs more supporting characters.

Ya know, people can have lives outside of their marriage. It may not be as suspenseful as dating, but there are always pressures exerting themselves from one angle or another. And if the marriage is so dull, just give it less "screen time" and focus on something else. Ya don't have to erase the thing.

I am really sick of the whole "Peter has to be single, because you cant tell all the stories you can with a married Spider-Man." Really, and you can tell all the stories you can with Spidey`s ID all over the place? It doesn`t make any sense, and something this divisive should just be left as is rather than make more problems later down the road.

I like Parker and MJ married. Because, you know, thats what people do. Get married. Peter is the average Joe of the 616. Thats why people love him.
Instead of focusing on this single aspect of two multifacted characters, why not focus how heroics effect their marrige? Surly its not as easy as MJ makes it looks at times. Every marriage has its issues, and The City can easisy be Peters 'other woman' that makes MJ jeleous. Of course she would be conflicted because she would know that he feels responsible for protecting people, but that sometimes, she would just want him to stay home sometimes.
Conflict. Its not that hard.
