I heard somewhere that Hulk’s kids were into Pokemon and, Hulk, being the swell guy that he is, did it for them.

Hogan was the master of ceremonies. According to an interview at Pokemon.com, his son is “a huge Poke-maniac.”

Hmm, he can show up in New York for a Pokeman event but can’t fly into Memphis for an in-ring interview because “his knee injury returned.”
I’m guessing Team Rocket agreed to do the job to him.
