WW Chicago, Day 2: Turner & Loeb on Ultimate Wolverine

Marvel unveiled their plans for Michael Turner in Chicago today; the artist will team with Jeph Loeb on an Ultimate Wolverine mini-series.

“It’s a chance to create something new with a character who is so familiar to the readership and to the public at large,” said Loeb. “Michael Turner and I were at a dinner with [Marvel Editor-in-Chief] Joe Quesada in Los Angeles and were batting around ideas. Mike’s sketchbook of the X-Men had just appeared in Wizard and it was very much on my mind. But the Marvel Universe is very tied together and interrupting any X-book is a complicated process, which is one of the reasons why I’m drawn to the Ultimate Universe. It’s still small enough and new enough that creatively we can do something that is, for want of a better word, groundbreaking.”

More Ultimate Universe news can be found in Newsarama’s Ultimate Marvel Panel coverage and their Mike Carey interview.

Break out your spurs and put on that old Jon Bon Jovi-penned soundtrack — Marvel also announced the names of the six “Young Guns Reloaded” artists. Simon Bianchi, Clayton Crain, Pascual Ferry, Ariel Olivietti, Billy Tan and Leinil Yu.

And finally, while previous years in San Diego and Chicago have brought announcement after announcement related to exclusive deals, this year brings two, Brian Wood and Peter Gross, both to DC/Vertigo. Congrats to both Peter and Brian.
