Hellboy 2 still up in the air
Superherohype.com reports that Hellboy 2 is still up in the air, per director Guillermo del Toro:

Director Guillermo del Toro told San Diego Comic-Con attendees Friday that he was hopeful that Hellboy 2 would get a green light in the future, but the current status of the project is still up in the air. He said that trying to find a home for the second movie in a franchise has proved taxing, but he is excited about the script, which has the seal of approval from “Hellboy” creator Mike Mignola.

“I hope it gets made, but that is really all I can say right now,” said del Toro.

Speaking of deals up in the air …
Bryan Singer has a similar story for the Superman sequel:

At the Warner Bros. panel at Comic-Con International on Saturday, Superman Returns director Bryan Singer said that he wants to direct another Superman film for Warner Bros.

“I haven’t concluded a deal to do it yet — which is also iffy — but my intention is to do it,” Singer said. “My intention is to do it for 2009.

“With this one, we kind of introduced the characters and the universe to some degree, which required some measure of re-introduction since it had been several years since Superman had been around,” Singer said. “The next one enables me to get all Wrath of Khan on it.”

Did he check the Lost & Found?
Actor, former WCW world champion and now director David Arquette was set to show footage from his directorial debut The Tripper in San Diego this weekend, but lost the tape somewhere in the convention center. But that didn’t stop him from giving fans a taste of the flick:

To appease the crowd, Arquette acted out a few lines from the movie, which he co-wrote.

He described it as “a political horror film about a person who’s obsessed with Ronald Reagan and he attacks hippies at an outdoor music festival.”

The film stars Paul Reubens, Jason Mewes, Lucas Haas and David’s new brother-in-law Thomas Jane, with cameos by sister Patricia and wife Courtney.

Previewing Galactica
If you’re like me, you’re probably chomping at the bit in anticipation of the next season of Battlestar Galactica — arguably the best show on television right now, period — which took a risky, yet brilliant turn in its season finale. Creators Ron Moore and David Eick, as well as cast members Edward James Olmos, James Callis, Lucy Lawless and Aaron Douglas, were on hand in San Diego to talk about the upcoming season. Wizard reports from the panel:

Olmos reiterated several times that the third season is the darkest television he has ever worked on in his life, and described two upcoming plot developments ripped from the headlines: the human insurgency will resort to suicide bombings, and the humans will unleash a pandemic against the Cylons.

“I dare someone to tell me who the good guys and who the bad guys are in this show,” he said of the pandemic, comparing it to white men’s deliberate introduction of smallpox into Native American populations. “It’s incredibly difficult to take. And then you realize, what else are they (the humans) going to do? At last count we have less than 38,000 humans left, down from 49,000 at the end of the second season, and we’re losing fast.”

Now the lad’s got the whole “we’re not worthy” thing out of system about Donner’s original, maybe now we’d get what fans really want in the CGI era – a decent Superman versus Brainiac scenario.
